I just returned from a trip to the mayan for 2 weeks and did some shore fishing for the first time. I am from western canada and it was the first time I swam in the ocean! I caught something they call a rooster fish and had my rod snap in half by what a local supected was a barracuda.so I have the bug and am going to the only bass pro-shop in the area to pick up a long casting rig in the next month(after some research.) My wife thought it was cool to sit on the beach and watch me fish while sipping margarita's so this is going to be an annual affair.does anyone have any suggestions on where to go? What I am looking for is a place where we can have the best of both worlds, a nice hotel and good shore fishing nearby?

Check out Cape Hatteras, and while you're at it, look into the beach access issues. We need all the help we can get.

Come on down to the Cape and say hi to us. My wife fishes but just loves the time sitting on the beach relaxing too.

One word: Florida! Also, welcome to the family here.

I'm with sprtsracer...Florida. We've enjoyed several places along the Gulf. If you don't like crowds, check out Cape San Blas or St. George Island. If you want some nightlife, try Panama City or Destin.
