View Full Version : Gulp Questions

Hey All,
This year will be the first year I've ever used the Gulp Alive (in the containers with the juice). Based on what I read here on other threads, I put a couple of packs of the shrimp in there with the shrimp I got in the container to "liven" it up. I have these questions, though:
Can I put the Gulp bloodworms in the same Gulp juice as the peeler crabs? I guess my question is really is all the juice the same, or does it depend on which bait it is (minnow, shrimp, crab, flea, bloodworm, etc.)? I have a few packs of the various baits, and I'd like to "liven" it all up.
Another question has to do with the containers themselves. Some of you folks here had indicated they had a tendency to leak. I was talking to a guy at the river earlier in the week who uses the Gulp minnows (freshwater) and he said exactly the same thing. What I'm wondering is do any of you all get like a big, heavy tupperware container to prevent leakage?
And does the Gulp Alive keep season to season once opened, let's say if I keep it at room temperature in a closet or something (not exposed to heat/cold changes)? I guess the question is really what's the life of the stuff once it has been opened?
Thanks,
AJ

I would juice'em up. I've never fished them but, the containers do leak. At the tackle shop I worked for whenever we would get shipments in at least a couple would leak and soak the boxes...gnarly

You can put the blood worms in the "juice". As for the container leaking, it does a little. I put ALL of my baits in together. I keep my Gulp container in an old minnow bucket so if it does leak it just goes into the bucket. I still have some from last season.

Yep, that is what I do as well.

Yep...mix all mine together also. One nice thing about it is the colors don't bleed onto one another. I found some containers in the camping section of Walmart that work really well. They have a hinged lid with a rubber seal around it and a flip latch thats keeps it closed pretty tight. Knock on wood... it hasn't leaked yet:fishing:

The juice is all the same all though it will discolor depending on some of the baits. The new penny color ones tend to discolor the juice big time, but it doesn't discolor other baits. However I do keep all my new penny in the same container.
I try to keep basic colors the same. White say with all white, new penny with new penny, water melons with similar, etc.
As far as the containers go. Yes the factory ones leak like a sieve. I've had pretty good luck replacing them with Zip Lock screw top containers.
I'll have to look into those other ones mentioned at Wal-Mart as the Zip's leak sometimes just a little.

I bought some at the Boaters World sale not long ago and learned the hard way that they leak. That stuff will stink up a tackle box in the sun fast. I think I'm gonna mix mine and put it in a better container.

I bought some at Red Drum the last time down and Bob said the ones in the tub catch more fish. He added the ones in the package to the tub and he thought the tub ones were better. I bought the tub. He said he keeps his on his air conditioner stand all winter with no problems.

Just got "hooked" on Gulp baits the last few days and plunked down some good $$ for a bunch of the regular Gulp and some of the Alive. After one outing, my Alive was leaking all over the place (even after I double ziplocked it...) I went to Bed, Bath and Beyond (I am never short on 20% off coupons from them...) and bought some Snap N' Lock containers in the kitchen section. I toted one of them around for 5 hours today and didn't have any problem with leaks (although I still kept it in a gallon ziplock just incase...) I like the container so much, I went back and bought a smaller one to stick in my cargo shorts for my future trips.

Yep, bought a bucket, yep it leaks, to pay that much for stink and then their container doesn't work, P's me off. Jerks!

I have a bucket of the gulp alive shrimp. Leaks pretty good, but I've just been wrapping it in an old rag, and keeping it in the top compartment of my tackle box. I need to get out and buy a container to keep the stuff in.

Specs can be picky in the surf zone fall time of year. Some times they will go for a little of all, but may bite every cast on another. I put different ones in separate zip locks, then into a gal. size zip , then into a 5 gal bucket.

I picked up one of the containers in the camping section at Wal Mart, probably the one bassnut suggested. They had two sizes, and I got the bigger one (7 or 8 bucks). It looks like it'll hold about a quart or maybe a little more. It has a little ring on the top of it that you can clip somewhere and says it's airtight for divers/campers/yakkers to keep watches, wallets, phones, etc. dry. I'll probably put it in a big zip loc bag at first just to be safe, but I've got it on its side out in the garage to test it. It hasn't leaked in two days (knock on wood). Again, thanks for the input everybody! I just put all my baits in the same juice together. :)

Spin, I have personally seen Gulp outfish live bait side by side for flounder. I was fishing live finger mullet and another fella I know was fishing pearl Gulp on a red jighead. He outfished me like 4 to 1. I've caught a ton of fish on Gulp.
As for mixing, like everyone said, toss them all in the same container. I use a huge peanut butter jar that I cleaned out. I just put the juice from a couple containers in there and packed it full of different types of Gulp. Mostly different sizes of shrimp and swimming mullet though. The peanut butter jar doesn't leak and you can get it good and tight. That Gulp juice is rank when it spills.
