Hello all. I have purchased some new spiderwire stealth. The stuff looks and feels like it should be awesome. I've never used braid before (I've always used mono). I purchased it because of all the "braid" rage as of late and I can put a whole lot more on a spool. Well I was messin around and working on my knots and now I'm really BUMMED.
The spider wire (20#) breaks at a max of 17# and usually less than that. It has broken at as little as 10#. Everytime it breaks on the knot. I've used many different knots, and wet them all with the same results for all of them.
I was going to use this line with a 50# Berkley Trilene Big Game shock leader for my trip to NC outerbanks later in June.
Can anyone give me any pointers, am I doing something wrong?
I've always been a big fan of Stren lines, and can get 17# DuraTuf to last to about 25#, right now I'm really not empressed.
Thanks,

Get Power pro, it breaks at about 8 pounds over the rated strength i believe!

That's why I use Power Pro and Suffix.

I've had good luck with Stealth. Try Alberto's knot for the shocker and a palomar to connect terminal stuff.

I've used 30 lb test SW Stealth for the last 5 or so years for my jetty rod with no problems. The ONLY knot I use is the Palomar as I only tie to my leader swivel when lure fishing. I do not have a problem with breakoffs or wind knots. I've tried using Powerpro for jetty fishing but always return to SW Stealth. I do not use braid when surf fishing...

Power pro or Suffix and use a uni knot; certain knots that normally work with mono will slip when tied with braid.

Power Pro, Suffix and Fireline all work for me and I have a friend who does well w/ spider wire. Sounds like a knot problem.
For braid to swivel connections, nothing but the polamar knot (sp?). For braid to mono, use the uni to uni (and a couple of others).
If surf chunking bait, stay with all mono IMO.
