Took my wife fishing for her first time since the hip replacement in February. She did great and we caught several croakers.
My question is what is it with fishing piers? There was plenty of room all along the bank but the PAX pier was packed. (The thing looks good since they repaired it.)
We set up and was comfortable while I could watch the crowd on the pier. Wife could not understand it.
ONE MISTAKE I was using a ABU blue rocket and forgot to tell her that it did not have a level wind. She caught a croaker and when she reeled it in I had about 2 inches of line on one side and hardly nothing on the other. I have to put new line on it before I go out again.
It was worth it to be able to take her out again and see her enjoy herself.

John, you ought to know the answer to this one :p People see a pier and believe there is deeper water which means more/bigger fish, not always the case. You can cast, some can't. ;)

Hey John, that's really great news about your wife's being able to get out and enjoy herself after the surgery! I'm so glad that went well! Also, glad you caught some croakers, too. :)

Guess you are right. Just thought it was funny all the room we had and the pier was crowded.

Annette did great and starts work Monday night.
She has always liked night shift.

That's great to get her out. When we were at Oak Island a few weeks ago we saw a man take his son who was wheelchair bound out to the surf. We offered to let him try some fishing with our stuff too. He was very grateful but they didn't have the time. He said his son loved to get out on the beach and they rent wheelchairs with balloon tires that make it fairly easy. The kid was in heaven!
