An old friend and I are getting back into surf fishing after a 30+ year hiatus, so I decided to join this forum (after lurking for a few weeks). As per usual for a newbie, I'm hoping to squeeze some info from the members.....

My friend and I are debating the age old question of rod length. He is a Maryland boy used to heaving lead with a 14 footer. I, on the other hand, remember using a 9 footer in most cases. We will be fishing the east coast of Florida. So the question for the Florida fishermen is this: What size rod do you use most when fishing from the beach? If you were to be limited to two rods, what sizes would they be? What if you had to chose only one?

As for brands, we were looking at St. Croix, Lamiglass, Penn, and Tsunami. Votes for favorite rod in the $120 to $150 range?

Thanks to all for your input.

Welcome back. You guys sound like me. My "time off" from surf fishing was only about 15 years. Learned more in a few weeks here then I ever knew before.

Welcome back! St. Croix Triumph series would be my choice at 10' or 10' 6".
