I just purchase a Daiwa Emcast Plus. What would be the best type of rod/pole to use with this reel? I plan on doing some cobia, drum, etc. fishing from pier and surf. I would like to get an opinion from you all.
Thanks

Which size Emcast did you get? I have the 6000 (the big one) and use it on a 12' Ocean Master. I think it's too heavy for short poles, but it works well throwing out a fish finder rig and a moderately heavy weight in the surf. I have not tried it off a pier. I would think the smaller models would work well on 7' or 9' medium heavy poles.

Yes if your going to be doing both pier and surf i would recommend more of a 9' rod. The emcast is a great distance reel and will launch it out there with any rod!

I guess I will get the 5000 or 5500 with a 10' Ocean Master. I want to be sure that I'm comfortable throwing it. I'm only 5'2 and my arms are not that long. But I want to make sure that I can throw a nice distance and be able to handle any fish that bites.

For a rod to be used for both P&S, I would recommend a 9 or 10 foot MH rod.
This would make it short enough to pier fish as well as long enough for the surf. JMHO C2
