Hello P&Sers. I am not really new to surf fishing but relatively new to this board. I have been "lurking" for a while now gaining a lot of knowledge. These are some pictures of what I refer to as a "pier rod." It is short (5 1/2 ft.) and stiff. It is wooden all the way to the tip (possibly bamboo?) It has three guides. The center has guides on both sides of the rod. The tip guide is centered(not on one side). Its six sided, not round. I got it from my deceased great-uncle and am planning to display it beside my grandfather's peir rod with a Penn PEER 109 reel that is already on the wall. The only marking on it is the sticker that says ?ONT??GUE on top, a fish in the middle, and ??EADNOUGHT on the bottom. My questions for the "old salts"--Who made it? How old? What's the extra guide on the other side for? What reel would be commonly used on it for the era? etc...Any insight would be greatly appreciated. Sorry for the long post. Thanks in advance.

montague dreadnought rod is meant to be used from either side. Probably bamboo. would love to see pics. Probably better to hear from someone fishing in the 40s or 50s or someone who is an old tackle buff

The metal ferule in the center allows the rod to be reversible. You can actually use the guide on the bottom (rotate the tip so that guide is on top) and change the rod's action.
