how to hook fleas?

im proud of myself for once i managed to find a nice mess of sand fleas that are peanut size or bigger, now that i got about 2 doz or so...how do you hook em, they seem to fall off when i cast or fall apart easily.

I pinch the shell and peel off half of it. I run my hook through the shell and back through the belly with the barb coming out where I peeled the shell. Smaller ones I just hook through the belly and out the back.
