I'm shopping for an 11" spinning rod to throw 1-3 oz. I looked at a G Loomis today (11" medium heavy) and it was very light. Would appreciate any comments, good or bad, about these surf rods. Any other recommendations would be appreciated. Thanks.

sorry bro just went and looked... it's sold...
thinking a Loomis MH would be rated a bit higher then what you're looking for...
there's a supply of the AFAW blanks on the way into the US... keep your eyes open for them, the Estuary makes an excellent 1-3 oz plugger...

This is an interesting thread for me as the AFAW Estuary has apparently become a collectors item. I am considering a St. Croix, Loomis, Lamiglas, in that 11' 1-3 or4 oz range. Input regarding the Loomis would be greatly appreciated.

not a collectors item but not many are being sold... that should say a lot about them... there is a shipment inbound though, just don't know when it'll hit these shores...

jkcam,
The Loomis is very light. When casting the rod doesn't just flex at the tip. Seems like rod bends about half way down. Read somewhere that the grip is rough and using gloves might be useful if casting a lot. A guy told me he broke the tip off and got a replacement without any problems (lifetime warantee). The price is pretty steep but might be worth it if your out there for hours at a time.

nothing wrong with a Loomis, got a couple myself... if there's one you like buy it up... you can always sell it later if it turns out to not be what you want...

Only two loomis that I've used are 1448 (12' light heaver) and a 7' loomis (gm2,I think, medium action trout rod).. Used both extensivly, caught many a fish on both... Niether have broken, had them long enought to have had both rewrapped a couple of times. Both rods are over 15yrs old and still catch'n.. Those two will never be sold... ;)
