Ever been fishing with multiple rods off a pier and almost lose one over the side when a fish is on?
My son and I were bored and built this to remedy the problem....

Pretty cool device! I'm having a little trouble understanding the 2nd pic. Is that a hook underneath for slipping through the spaces in the pier planks?

Yes... You slide it through, twist ,pull upo and tighten the nut on the top. On the front it just has a bolt that is straight to keep the rack from turning if kicked. Ive used it a couple of times now both on piers with railings and my Dads pier on the river that doesnt have rails and it works great. In the first pic, the small piece of pipe has a cork in the bottom so your bait knife doesnt fall thru or hit the metal bolt that attaches it. The bait board has a piece of 1/8" lexan covering it so the wood doesnt get funky from cutting your bait on it.

That looks similar to what we have made up to use on Mercer's. Being concrete, you can't just lay the rod on the edge. I love innovation. Good Job!

nice.
we always use bungie cords to hold our rods down to the rails once we get set up.

Good stuff Byrd! At one point in time I was trying to think how to anchor an umbrella under the planks at a local pier.. The way you built that rod holder would be a good way for me to go about it. If I ever get around to it.

Hey NJ... I betcha you paid that hitch hiking Canuck to watch my favorite Tica rod go over at the LIP!
Pretty work on the rod holder. Coulda used one of those or a better fishing buddy last season when I donated a rod to the surf.
How close does the rod holder have to be to the rail?

Its built on a 70* angle so I normally put the rail side of the base about a foot away from the rail. The rods do not rest on the rail at all.

Thanks. Lemme know if you'll put those in production. I'd love to test one out.

Im building 2 more smaller ones (2 rod) without the bait board for fishing my Dads pier on the river. No rails on his dock. he has a couple stationary holders but that limits you to where you set your rods. In the evening, this time of year I can fill a cooler with 14"-18" croaker in about 2 hours.......
