Hey everyone I have a confession. I have lived in SE NC for 24 years and I have to sadly admitt that I have never fished from any of the pier in the area. I joined this site to gain knowledge about fishing and so far I have not been disapointed. I have noticed that Kings are a popular fish on this site and in my area. So my question is, what do I need to catch some. I.E. answer as if I am starting out. Thanks for everyones help

Check out the "king rigs 101" thread in the fishing bible on this site. That should get you started.

Your best bet would probably be to go to the pier and ask around. I've only been kingfishing for 3 years now but I learned almost everything from people on the pier. Even when i am kingfishing I always have people come up and ask me questions about what i'm doing and how to do it. There are tons of nice people on piers and they will most likely have no problem helping. Go on different websites and find out what gear you need. Like a release, anchor, and a king rig and then go out and ask around and I guarantee somebody will help you and if you are doing something wrong they will tell you about it. Where are you in SE NC. What piers are you going to fish at? Just curious.

If you want to get into kings, that TLD you mentioned might come in handy! King rigging is basically all about how much line you have on your reel. You'll know what I'm talking about after a king gets his first run on you(i have yet to myself). Also check out that king rig 101, it'll point you in the right direction.

Thanks guys for the advice so far. I will mainly be at Johnny Mercer's, CB pier, and KB pier. Maybe some of the Brunswick County piers.

If your down around Ocean Crest Pier..ask around the T for Brandon Mc. He posts here from time to time and reads more often. He can explain more of the game ot you out there on the end when he's fishing.
