JUsr hit my left index finger with a hammer trying to put togrther a shelf to house all of my fishing tackle. The fingernail is all blaxk & vblue and ir's really danged hard to type only using 7 fingeers and 2 thumbs  Sucks having so much gear that I need a huge shelving unit to hold ir all :p:D

Hey, how long does ir take for a smashed finger to heal up?

I just moved all my gear to and old fridge I am not using. Always seems cool and sure the humidity will be more consistent. Keeps the line out of the light as well.
Best part,.......... No hammer and nails!!;)

AK, I busted my thumb with a hammer once and wound up losing the thumbnail. As I recall, it took awhile for all the achiness to go away and for it to heal up. Good luck with that, man, because it'll be awful easy to bump into things with that index finger if you're not careful.

Hey Racey, the old fridge is a good idea. That should be a good place for line. I have to keep mine in the closet inside. Got some junky old kitchen cabinets that got torn out of a house, cleaned them up as best I could, and put them up in the shop. Not much to look at - wife hates the sight of em - BUT keeps the gear all off the ground. Used to have everything piled around in milk crates before that.

If I had a place to put it in the house, I'd get one of those heavy wire shelving units like they have at Sams for like 70 bucks. Sturdy - on wheels - and would hold a bunch of stuff - and no need for carpentry.

alright listen to me...carefully..you need a #40 to #50 drill bit, k? using your thumb and index finger on your good hand, take the drill bit and twist it on the dark spot..dont be nervous. go slowly, take you time. it'll take a few minutes for it to penetrate but once it does it will be instant relief. if you do it slowly enough it wont grab when it brakes through the nail and hurt. instant relief..a little blood but no more pain and you wont lose your nail. if you dont, it'll hurt for awhile and you'll lose the nail..i make more than one hole sometimes to get it all out.

Same principal, heat a needle and pierce the nail.

When the blood comes out, does the bruising under the nail go away? How do you know if you've gotten it all? I think I'll try this before the heat method...that scares me a bit.

The heat is to sterilize the needle- you can let it cool down some first. ;)

I use a paper clip Because needle is pointed and the hole will close quickly.
Just heat it up and it goes through like butter NO pain.. Done this too many times as for I'm a carpenter Job hazards. lol

A broke fridge is also a good place to keep your weld rod.

After piercing the nail, clean with peroxide and I always use a drop of super glue to seal the hole back up to prevent infection.

The bruising under the nail is only a small area, so according to the nurse here at work, the drilling is probably not needed and may be counterindicated. Luckily, it was only the tip of my finger and not the whole thing.

there was an episode of Deadliest Catch where they used the hot paperclip trick. Nurses do it with a dremel tool.

the blood blister is what hurts, its seperating the nail from the skin...instant relief without the sharp needle, use the tiny drill bit..im talkin' #50.
NOT with a drill, just with the bit and slowly twist...and yes it is larger than a needle but you wont pierce it as deep with a needle..youve got control with this thing..DO IT!!! you wont go no further than YOU want! I could only find a #40 around the house just now and i cant hold the bit and camera at the same time but a #40 works also..i was gonna try to post a vid. of how easy it is. it takes as long as you want it to...

AK,

You dont need to put your 1,000 lb sinker collection on a shelf! ;) They can go in a box on the floor of your closet...
