Matthew Daly - Associated Press Writer
ANCHORAGE, Alaska - Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin says she hopes the latest ethics complaint filed against her is a "wake-up call" that a new ethics policy is needed in the state.
"The only saving grace in this recent episode is that it proves beyond any doubt the significance of the problem Alaska faces in the 'new normal' of political discourse," Palin said in a release that was posted online through her Twitter account.
"I hope this will be a wake-up call - to legislators, to commentators and to citizens generally - that we need a much more civil and respectful dialogue that focuses on the best interests of the state, rather than the petty resentments of a few," Palin said.
The ethics complaint, filed Friday with the state personnel board, alleges that Palin has been paid for media interviews. Palin's chief of staff, Mike Nizich, called the allegation absurd.
"It is amazing to me that anyone could think that - let alone put their name behind it and once again seek to distract state officials and needlessly increase their work load," Nizich said in a statement late Friday. "The state is losing the value of some of its expenditures when public servants are pulled away from important assignments to deal with far-fetched and mean-spirited allegations."
Palin says her family has racked up more than $500,000 in legal fees and the state has poured about $2 million of taxpayer money into investigating the complaints. A spokeswoman later clarified that most of that expense was for staff time by state lawyers and others who have helped Palin defend herself.
Palin's lawyer, Thomas Van Flein, said the complaint was filed by an Anchorage resident, who faxed it to a local television station.
Van Flein said Palin has never been paid an appearance fee or received other compensation from any television or radio show or other media interview.
The complaint is the 17th filed against Palin and the second since she announced July 3 she is resigning. Most of them have been dismissed as baseless.

Ever notice how the liberals who have incessantly and viciously attacked and mocked Palin & her family are NRVER willing to debate the actual facts, numbers, and points she presents, particularily regarding America's lack of an energy policy? Check out her latest op-ed today in the Wash Post, re: "Cap & Trade". It's not hard to find. It's really amazing how some people who can't write a gramatically correct sentence call HER an airhead.

Heh Blackbird, I was gonna point that out but you beat me to it. It's funny, she's cleaned up corruption in Alaska and brought the state to energy independence as well as having advanced a vitally important fuel line, and many other positive acts as governor. On top of that, her PAC has raised over 700K dollars, 200K since her resignation and in small donations showing the large number of people who back her, yet her denegrators still persist in the myth that she's an 'airhead'; probably based on an SNL skit. Newsflash: It was TINA FEY playing Palin who said she could see Russia from her house, not Palin.
She's got a good point about ethics law. So far 17 ethics violations have been levied against her by people who don't like her. 15 have been dismissed as unfounded, the 16th is about to follow suit. This latest one shows absolutely no grounds of truth whatsoever, and will also likely be dismissed. The SOLE reason for filing these charges isn't that she's guilty of them...she isn't. It's simply to force her out of the political field by bankrupting her as well as forcing her to 'shut up' out of fear of more bogus violation charges. It's judicial extortion. "Yeah, ya's bettah shudup liddle lady else Rico an me'll break yer kneecaps wit anudder suit, ya see?" And the Liberals are ecstatic about these tactics...but then again, they've always been the most eager to shut down the Bill of Rights when it comes to any point of view opposing theirs. I'd say any TRUE freedom loving American would be against such foul and dishonorable tactics, regardless of party or affiliation. But hey, that's just me and I'm an independant.

It is a shame what the democrat smear machine has done to this lady. Over $600,000 in legal fees to ward off false allegations.
Could you imagine what would happen if Letterman said that A-Rod "knocked up" Obama's ole lady during the 7th inning stretch? :p

Personally, I wouldn't support Gov. Palin for President at this point...that being said...I do not feel the attacks on her are justified by ANY means! It appears it's the "liberals" who feel threatened by her, and feel they need to attack her. It's also another "smokescreen" to divert attention away from more pressing problems. It's no different than when they tried to hold Rush up as the "leader of the Republican Party"! These idiots are calculated and viscious!!! This is typical of their tactic of attacking anyone who doesn't agree with them or who questions their self-perceived superiority! How dare Gov. Palin stand up and proclaim that she doesn't believe in abortion! How dare her having the courage to aspouse conservative principles! How dare her wanting to drill for more oil! How dare her hunting and fishing and killing those poor defenseless animals! How dare her believe in the bill of rights, individual freedoms and supporting the individual's right to bear arms! Why, OMG...SHE'S EVEN A MEMBER OF THE NRA!!! Yep...typical of their tactics! One need only look at what happened to "Joe the Plumber" when he asked a simple question of "his royal highness" if you want additional evidence. In the meantime, they are also attacking talk radio and anyone in the conservative media. All of a sudden, Fox News Channel has become their "enemy", even though FOX is the only one who is currently speaking the truth and reporting on ALL SIDES of the issues and on all the IMPORTANT issues. You see, the elitest far left only wants you to hear THEIR voice, and they are intent on silencing anyone who has an opposing view and they want to use the government as their weapon to do so.

Good post, Larry. I continue to be absolutely astounded at the number of people who see the far right as being any more authoritarian than the far left.

LOL
I haven't heard anything about Al Gore's comparison of global warming to the Holocaust on the mainstream media either. Here's the link: http://www.campaignforliberty.com/blog.php?view=21596 or http://www.spiked-online.com/index.php/site/article/7138/
I guess to a lot of people that such comparisons just don't matter as long as one's "heart is in the right place.":confused::confused:

So Al, are you saying that Palin 'lived by the sword' by issuing multiple and false ethics charges against her opponents, and thus deserves what she is getting? Evidence please. Funnily enough, the people she levied ethics charges against turned out to actually be guilty. Go figure. No one has claimed her poop doesn't stink. She's human, and by nature humans are not perfect. But just what has she done to deserve 17 false ethics charges designed for the sole purpose of bankrupting her and driving her out of politics?

Just another reason to consider reforms in our judicial system here in the states, you accuse someone of something and you're right they pay for the fines and lawyer fees, if you're wrong then you pay for everything including the other guys legal fees. Might put a stop to some of the frivolous law suits that congest our court systems every day.

you dig enough in someone's back ground.. and have governement support ..you'll find something.... can the average US citizen ( Joe Plumber ) dig up something on their neighbors without hacking into the CIA / FBI data base? .... nope...but if we did.. we all could dig up some dirt.
Letterman - Ha
Bristol - Ha ha
SNL - she was pretty funny
I did not support neither candidates.. I voted libertarian.
As stated, US Democracy at its finest.... you think they'll go easy on the US Supreme Court appointee? dig..dig..dig... bones will fall outta the closet
