I do not know much about spinning reels anymore. My father is getting back into fishing, the bug has re-bitten him. He has been trying to ask me questions about spinning reels. What I am asking is, what is the best sub 100 dollar spinning reel to be used in the sand with 2 hook dropper rigs? I have experience with the Okuma Epixor and am completely happy. I am prone to suggest the Daiwa Emcast line. I am not sure. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Both are good. Depends on what ya want. I have an Emcast Pro and 2 Emblem Pros. They pack alot of line and are light in weight.

I like the Penn 750 SSM metal bodied reel. Check on Bass Pro website and out of 25 reviews all were 5 stars which is what I give it too. I found a site you may want to look at.

I've been using the Okuma Expiors for about 4 yrs now with absolutely no problems at all. i have the 30 and 50, both spooled with 30# PP, & they work great.

I bought an Emblem Emcast Sport 23 years ago. The only negative I can say about it is on a heavy pull, it seems to wobble from the stem. (between the seat and the reel body.)
Last year I bought and Emblem Pro and haven't looked back.
All I hope is that they work as good and as long as my old Daiwa 7000C did that I bought in the late 70's.

reels with great reviews
tica scelpter(i think thats how it is spelled). High Plains Drifter uses this longcast reel for casthing large jacks and roosterfish in the baja cali surf.
daiwa black gold- durable, but not best with braid or for maxium distance
shimano spheros(look for the older fa models for great discounts)
penn sargus/ pflueger infusion(almost the same reel)
daiwa ss tournament(more of a lure casting/ light surf reel, small with largest size holding 12/260)
Dont buy
basspro shop/offshore angler gold cup9more like loser cup) spinning reels (pirce looks good, not a overdose of bearings, good sizes, but it develops
clicking issues and it is not jsut me)
offshore angler do make great rods though

Okuma is coming out with a "b" series and that is supposed to replace and improve on the 55a. For my money to improve on the epixor 55a it has to be one hell of a reel.... just my dime... I got em and I love em, recommend them to anyone and they have good bang for the buck

I have been using an epixor 30 for 6 years or so now. That is my pluggn', bait reel. I love it. It looks like crap right now, but still kickn'. I hooked him up with a Shimano 6500 baitrunner last year. He left the house looking to get the Epixor. He came home with another Baitrunner. I told him either way he can't go wrong. Although I did tell him I give the baitrunner the nod.
Thank you for your help guys. Looks like I wasn't too far off the mark. For what it is worth, I like Okuma's. I have had positive experience with their customer service. Saying that, I used an Alumina for a handful of fishing trips before it crapped out on me. I can't see buying another one of those, the alumina that is.

For the 100 bucks or less range, I like the Daiwa BG. it's very old school, but that thing is a work horse and it will last for years. But that baitrunner is also a beast, i really think Shimano makes the most reliable spinners.

Look at the Diawa Laguna. I use them on all my rods. 2500 and 3500. Long cast ability w/ braid or just popping lures or bottom fishing. A great all around reel.

The Laguna is a great reel. To bad it was discontinued. The Laguna has been replaced with the reel in the link.
