While rummaging through Bass Pro i stumbled upon this Cannon Gizmo. Since i had $20 burning a whole in my pocket i bought one.
After getting the rod down how do most people fix it on there. ?
I used black electrical tape but i'm wondering whether i should back it up with a small zip tie.
Are there any con's to using to using it ?
I'm putting it on my 12ft beachrunner 4-10oz loaded with 17lb mono tide to a 50lb shocker.
It looks simple enough squeeze the trigger cast and let go ?

I like electric tape. Mount cannon close to reel seat as ya can get. Works best with long spool reels. Attach line onto gizzmo when spool is fully extended from the reel. Wrap the shocker around the device 2 or 3 times before depressing trigger. Keep drag loose enough so you dont snap off at first.

they're great.i've been using them for years and haven't found a drawback yet.set the drag and leave it alone.the cannon takes all the force.

Thanks billfish...
I use a 6500 baitrunner and when throwing 4 or 5 oz's and bait, it can really do a number on the finger. Seems that it will also help in the cold cuz you don't have to remove the finger from your gloves. I appreciate the picture. I will check them out.

one ???. How do you keep the line from falling off the reel as you are wrapping it on the cannon, and when you cast, there is no tension on the the line so you can get some tangles as it falls. Does this happen to any of you?

when using braid the line just doesn't fall off the spool.the tension
is all from the cannon forward.maybe i'm lucky, but i don't have any problems with it.

The cannon certainly added more distance but one problem i found was the shocker occasional uncoiled and became tangled.
I may have put it in the wrong spot so i guess i need to trial and error it for best performance.
It certainly lets you load up the rod though. Well worth $20

Delboy, how much more distance are you getting with the cannon?

The higher the weight it seemed the better distance i could get. With 4oz i was consistent on the cast as far as distance but when i went to 6n bait i was about 25 % longer. The other thing is it saves the finger which tends to give more the heavier the weight. A min 50lb shock leader is a must with this Gizmo.

I wouldnt use unless ya get up to 5or 6oz..I do not use myself but, I put one on my dads rod as he is getting on in years and it helps him keep up with us... and after ya attach line, turn the spool by hand to tightin line aginst trigger..
