i just found a 12' ocean master for sale that is rated 4-8, is this the same rod that everyone says will throw ten&bait if necessary?

That rod is the one below the 6-12. It has a little softer tip. I would say you could throw 10 n bait on occasion with it but 4 to 6 is prime for that rod.

thanks, im trying to find a heaver so i can go give the cobes a shot on the obx this may, and the consensus non custom for 8&bait or more seems to be the om. i just looked at the bass pro website, they don't have a 12' listed at 4-8, have they changed the rods recently or just the ratings?

I know that the OMs have a lite version and a "regular" version. The light is rated 3-6 and the regular is rated 6-12. I noticed on Sandcrab's OM it said 5-10 but it was just as solid as my 6-12 OM so I assumed that Ocean Master changed the rating on the OMs. I've never heard or seen one rated 4-8 so maybe that is a really old one, or a really new one. Hope this helps.
Th OM used to be rated 5-9 but people complained cuz it was underrated so they changed it to 6-12oz. They recently came out with th OM Lite rated 2-6oz that I was told could toss 8anbait in a pinch but 6anbait was th sweet spot. Planning on getting a lite to use here in th Bay an for lure fishing. Like Ant, I have never seen one rated 4-8oz.

However if you are fishing the OBX alot you really need both the OM's, one heavy and one light. There will be many times you will need to throw 8nbait or more to hold bottom. A light rod alone just won't cut it.....Tightlines

i probably won't be fishing the obx a whole lot for a while, i just wanna get something i can cobia, red drum, and striper fish with
I would get th OM 6-12oz if I were you. Then you are covered if ya can get away with 6 or if ya need to toss 10oz. Both trips striper fishing this year there were times that I had to throw 10oz to hold bottom. Th OM handled 10anbait great.

I looked at the BPS website and the only rod I saw listed 4-8 was the 10' model. Was the rod you were looking at 10' or 12'?

it would be the 6 to12oz OM. I't won't load without 6oz but for a bait rod you can throw 6oz all the time. On the other hand if the surf gets big and you can't throw 8, 10 or 12oz and bait. Pack up your stuff, it's time leave. Sad as it is, thats always when the fish start hitting.....Tightlines

Hat, first off "Howdy", my friend and then could be you are correct, and tell Trigger sorry bout the fishing luck.
My experience is, 11' OMs rated 5-10 ounces, at least as long as I have had one (spinning), now since I am not a "conventional" reel type, could it be OM has conventional rods (if they have) that may be rated differently? Just my thoughts, but as I say 5 - 10 is what both my four year old 11' and less than one year old says. Now, 12' may be 6 - 12, but the Jeep can't handle the length, so I can't comment on that.
Have Jeep will travel. :D

Great rod - needs AT LEAST 6 oz to start to load though...this is a composite rod and is not as light as a pure graphite rod...after casting you will have to put the rod back in the rod spike..can't hold this heavy rod...
I've used it to cast up to 10-N-B8 (bunker/spot head)...talk about taking a toll on your body! Try doing that all day....;)
