interesting article about it being "bad" to hold the fish by the mouth when posing for pictures.

Yeah, I saw that article too. I think it makes sense to avoid lipping a fish if you intend to release it. I've had my doubts about the safety of holding some of my massive drum like that, so I'll definitely be more careful from here on out.

Emanuel, just curious,do you know a guy named Charlie Wiener,he is with the SC fisherys? You were talking about a "safe release" on drummies, and he came to mind..

I know of him, but I've never met him. I'm more familiar with the GA DNR and Fisheries people than the SC folks.

I don't know him personally myself, but have posted back and forth to him.. He is very knowlegeable about drum and thier habits, and from what I understand an excellent fisherman to boot..

Funny, here we would love to get a few humpies. Thankfully, I never had that problem when salmon fishing up there. Funny how they caught all those different fish bottom fishing. The only different fish I got up there fishing for halibut were yellows and a few huge ling cod. The more I read about alaska the more I wish I was there. Atleast for the summer months.

I finished reading the piece in SWS and those boats are fishing near the CBBT is it because the pier is in the wrong place that I don't hear much about Drum being caught off of the Seagull pier or am I mistaken?

Yeah, the shoals that the author is writing about are past the shipping channels and closer to the 3rd and 4th islands.
He's right about the shoals getting sketchy. I was in a deep V 25' CC out there on a 2-3 day and we came off a deep drop off to some shallows and this 6' wave clipped us.
