Has anyone worn breathable waders in the saltwater? Is there any reason not to? Do most of you wear Neoprene? Or do you just stay out of the water when fishing from the beach (early season)?

Thanks

I have the White River Breathables from Bass Pro..use the fleece liners with stirrups and wool socks..keep me plenty warm..although I don't stand in the water too much in the early season..I recommend the liners with stirrups..keep the chances for rub rash from the boots down.

So I guess the salt has no effect on the high tech breathable material. Good to know. Thx.

OB,

Myself and Ralph have both worn breathables in the surf. Ralph has worn his alot more than I have worn mine. I haven't noticed any adverse affects on them. I actually have two pair, breathable and neoprene. I always take both pair with me. I normally wear thermals and sweats under them.
Definetly wear something to protect your leg from the boot rubbing against it. I found that out the hard way.

Old Bay,
Just hose them off with Fresh Water when finished and let them dry off pretty well before putting them away. The good thing about Breathables is if you have to use them 2 days in a row..they will be dry on the second day...never had neoprene waders, but used to boogie board a lot in college and the wetsuit was constantly damp during the spring.:)

old-b, just as murph said wash em. mine are made by orvis. they recommend using a "gentle" powdered soap such a ivory. honestly i could not find powdered ivory anywhere so i substituted ivory in its solid form (the bar), and it worked just fine.

as for insulating properties, as aero mentioned we both donned breathable waders at obx this past jan. and were comfortable wading to the bar [it was aero's first time. albeit pelicanman accompanied him out. he was so anxious; the expression on his face was priceless]. i wore a layer of capliene long johns and was very comfortable.

having said that if you are planning to fish north of delaware between sept and feb get a pair made of neoprene. don't want to get your feelings hurt. ;)
