I've asked this question on other boards and I wanted some other opinions. I am getting a 12' Ocean Master spinning rod rated 6-12 oz. I have an Emblem X 5000T and 6000T. Which reel would be the better match for it? The 5000 is 2ozs lighter and I know that is not alot but I like holding my rods instead of spiking them. If it matters I do most of my fishing along the Outer Banks even though I do manage to get to the Florida coast once in awhile.

Hey Hoopper,
Can't tell ya which one to go with, but it's nice to have a choice. I'd try em both and go with the one I get better distance with.
I just got a 6000T from Cabela's (on sale) to put on a 12' Tica. Sometimes I think I shoulda gone with the 5000T. I could order a 5000, but then I'd need a pole for the 6000...........Ya can never have enough fishin stuff.

I have the 5500 paired up with a 12' OM that I love. I thought that the 6000 was a little to big for the 12'.

Ya ...I was gonna mention the 5500 which I think is the same weight as the 6000 but more line cap than 5000....the R

Hopper,
Most of the info I have read on fishing OBX, especially "the Point" recommended a reel that would hold 300yds of 20# test. The 6000 exceeds that and would be your best bet. I took that advice and put a 6000 on my 12 ft UEHA Tica and a 5500 on a UELA 12 ft Tica I use for backup. Like Ruedy said, try'em both! Have fun!
