My self and some other ladies registered to fish in the Rockfish Tournament at Sandy Point in April. This will be our first time fishing for trophy stripers. Can anybody give us tips on the best baits for early season stripers at Sandy Point? Is it better to use bloodworms or cut bait? Also, what about line, hooks ,etc.? Thanks.

Get some blood worms.

I use Gammi's Circle hooks, hooks the fish usually in the corner of the month, less likely to die after you release them.

Use 15 or 17 pound Mono with 50 pound shock leader.

Hope this helps.

You can try both blood worms and white perch, live line or cut bait, try and find out what they're bitting on. As Orest said use circle hooks easyest to catch and release. I'v found out if you use a 12' rod and know how to throw it you can get to the strike zone alot better than a shorter rod and the type of circle hooks is up to each individual on what she likes, you've got a choice of several brand name circle hooks,Gammi's, owners, eagle claw to name a few. I would pick anywhere from a 5/0 to 8/0,maybe someone else can give you what size is good to use. TRIGGER
