18 foot Sea boss center console had never heard of the brand before its got a 90 hp Johnson on the back of it. Dont know where to begin... I got all them 10-12 foot rods and like 3 rods suitable for boat fishin but ill figure somethin out. This should probally be on the boating board but i figured id get more responses on here. Any one got anything to say about boat fishing and how different is it from pier? any tips info or anythings about fishing from a boat in the bay is appreciated. Thanks guys

Congrats on the new ride Bassboy. What kind of water are you going to be fishing, salt or fresh? Last July 4th weekend I went from a pier fisherman to a boat guy and beleive me the difference is hugh. Please note that I didn't say better but is sure is different. Here's a forum that will help you out and you'll learn alot about boat fishing.Tidal Fish (http://www.tidalfish.com/boards2/) .Good luck with the boat. If you're fishing saltwater I'll be back to offer some advise.

Congrats on the boat. Guess we won't be seeing you on the pier for a while. no more king rigging for you. The first and most important thing a new boater needs to learn is to stay far far away from the piers. There's no fish there anyway. Good luck....

Way to go on the new boat boy! I just picked one up at the end of last year, 14’ MceeCraft, and can’t wait to get going this spring.

Although there are a million things to get, learn and adjust to from beach fishing the one that stands out to me for a boat is a depth/fishfinder. I had one come with the boat I bought but burned it up when I rewired everything. I just couldn’t stand all those wires all over the place and made a wrong connection!

In my opinion that’s a must have!

First thing a new boater should do is take a boaters safety course.;)

Congrats...sounds like a nice ride

Let's see, I live in Mechanicsville, am I getting some ideas here :D

But I'm still a novice, only been fish`n the bay for 25 years:rolleyes:

Leave them long rods at home...you can downsize now, ain't nothing better than hooking up to the big boy, cranking the motor, and following the fish before he spools you ;)

Good luck with the new rig, and "how different is it from pier?", well now you go to the fish instead of waiting for them to come to you :p

defiently get a depth finder so you dont lose your lures when trolling and with a 18 footer i wouldn't stray far into the ocean when windy - almost tipped once - we try to stay in the bay

Bassboy...The biggest difference I found fishing the bay from a boat is locating fish. A good fish finder is as necessary as your tackle. You need to know the depth and where the fish are suspended. You also need to know where structure is located and where the drop offs are. Unless you are just following other boats around and hoping to get on their action, without a fish finder you're dead in the water. When you're out there it all looks the same. Watch for birds working the surface, that's an indication that baitfish have been driven up. Where there's baitfish there's rock, blues. and or trout. Sometimes just one bird working the surface is all the indication you need. Always check the marine weather forecast before you venture out. The bay can turn ugly in a heart beat. Make sure you have all the Coast Guard required safety equipment on board. They've stepped up their activity and are boarding a lot of boats now. You can also be checked by the DNR and your local marine police. Each trip out will be a new learning experience. The important thing is be safe and have fun.

Thanks guys and yes catfish we got a fishfinder for it gettin a Garmin GPS/ sounder put on it and a VHF for now probally some things later in the season. And Drum Runner no you dont need a license to drive a boat. unless they changed that this year because last year i took out the old bayliner all the time at Ed Allens to bass fish. I already talked to my pops and this summer if you gotta hitch on your truck then we can take the boat. Ive been around boats all my life and Ive been takein out the bayliner bymyself for 2 or 3 years down at my river house.
Murphman- yeah its new cant wait to take it out.
Old salt- Im not really new to boating just out in the bay like i just said up there ^ Ive been around boats all my life but just usually in freshwater or on the Rapp. river.
butch- I will always be at the pier. We figured with the 42 gal. tank on the boat itll be over 45 dollars to fill it up so we are still gonna be on the pier just not as much:jawdrop: see you this spring. And im definatly not going to ever get near a pier! just because i know how much it pisses me off when someone does it.
