Where do you guys who tie your own rigs pick up beads? Just a regular craft store? Any brands, sizes, colors you reccommend? I have a michaels craft store down the road and ant to tie some of my own rigs up. If you're tying a fishfinder rig do you use the same diameter line for the leader from the swivel to the hook as you do for the shock leader? Thanks!

I picked up some white beads at the craftstore to make my rigs. The red/orange ones at the tackle shop are crazy expensive. For a few dollars at a craftstore, you can pick up a life time supply of beads.

As for the line, it really depends on what type of fish are out there but I tend to use 20-50# line for the fish finder rig while my shock leader is 40-50#. But again, results may vary depending on what you're fishing for and the size of your hook.

I tie my own rigs and I have found that small and medium sized beads work very well. I don't recall the size in mm's but I use all kinds of colors. I don't use shock leaders but none of my rigs go under 40 lb test. I buy the beads in bulk at a local craft store. When I tie my rig onto my line I use a double clinch knot. Before I tie the rig on I take eaither a small bead or a triangle type bead and thread the bead onto the line so my line finder won't slip over the swivel. Remember, nothing fancy, the less hardware the better. Good luck! The Rudde One.....

I tend to use black beads and get them from a craft store. Use beads with big holes below the weight slider so the knot to the swivel fits in the hole and is protected. Probably over thinking it but seems to work.

Interesting that a lot of fishing rigs use red beads near the hooks I guess to attract fish and folks use red beads for fish finders. lack so not nippers

The best place online is Shark River Mail Order. I go there because they also have my favorite oval glow-in-the-dark beads for nite trout fishing. Ooops, did I say that out loud?

http://www.srmo.com/

On the left side nav-bar, find "rigging supplies" click that, it will expand then click "beads."

For you North Jersey Guys they also have those hard to find fake corn kernel beads for the flundies!

I use a 50 or 60 lb shocker at all times on my surf rigs. My fish finder rig (swivel to circle hook) is usually kept short (less than 6") to help with casting distance. I usually use 60 or 80 lb test but move up to 100 lb mono or 150 lb steel when fishing for sharks at AI in the Summer.

You will find that once you put a hunk of bunker or cut bait on it your distance decreases dramatically. Breakaway rigs help along with using Sputnik sinkers...
