I just got the heavy version of the this rod and it seems pretty stout. Has anyone hear tried to cast 8 and bait with one? How well did it handle it? Thanks.

hey furball,
i got the 4-8oz and haven't tried 8 but have tried 6 and it was fine. the rod seems to be able to handle the weight no problem. from what i can tell you shouldn't have any problems with 8 n bait. i'm still trying to find a technique but with 4-5oz i'm avg just over 100yds. i'm sure if you know what you are doing you shouldn't have any problems getting out past that. if you want more of a heaver I also have the stout 12' OM 6-12oz. That thing is stiff. I've only tried 6oz and it acts like it's casting nothing at all. definately stout.

Thanks for the information. I have not tried the heavy 12 foot OM though I do have the light version. I like the OM rods alot. Regards,

the 10 foot model you spoke of will cast 8 with out much problem. If you are a strong caster you will overload the rod but should not hurt it unless you are a Ron Aeara (sp) type.
the 12 is meant for 8 and with good form can cast even five. The top end is more than most will cast. I have thrown it with 12 and a large bait (no fun till that big drummie hits) and you cannot hurt it.
