Ok....My fellow fisherman. I am strictly a monofilament guy but a buddy of mine talked me into trying Power Pro. I have it on two 7ft pinnacles rated for 12-20lb. I'm using 15lb on a Fin-Nor Finite 203. I am thinking on trying it on one of my coventional reels. Do any of you use Power Pro on your coventionals? I have heard that it is not good for coventionals because it can cut into the guides. Have any of yoiu had that problem. Thanks!!!

I 've been using Power Pro for 3 yrs now and haven't noticed any guide wear at all. I have all my spinning stuff and 5 conventional boat/trolling rods spooled with it. The only thing I don't like about Power Pro is that the yellow coating fades quickly on the Hi Vis yellow line.

Thanks Catman. I have two Penn Power Sticks. One is the older power stick and the other is the power stick plus. Both have Penn 320 gt2's. Any suggestions as to line weight?

I have P.P. 30# on my ABU 6500, and it works great. 300 yrd. capacity on real this size is nothing to seeze at. Backlashes have to be watched out for, but there never to deep. Have yet to find it necessary to cut. The titanium nitride solved the level-wind wear, and have not seen problem with rod guides yet. Drum Bum

I've used Power Pro and the only thing to worry about is if you have cheap guides. If you have Fuji guides it shouldn't be a problem. I've seen it cut through lesser metal guides. The only thing I can say is wind it on tight.

Nope never a problem for me.

...and tried braid (Spiderwire Stealth) for the first time on my 9' jetty stick. Love the stuff!

This year I will be trying the new Fireline XDS in 35 lb test on my ABU 6500 CS Mag (levelwind). I can cast forever with this setup so it should be good to see how much increased distance I can get. The only problem will be seeing how I can handle it when fishing at night off the jetty. ;)

Ruddedogg...I have a couple of Penn 321"s which is the left hand version of your 320's and I've got them spooled with 200 ys. of 30# Power Pro. This is top layered over plain cotton backing to take up space.

Don't forget your shock leader. I've watched people snap braid trying to throw too much weight. Still have to have something that'll take the shock off the running line.

Does anybody know of agood brand of line clippers or scissors that will cut through braid without leaving frayed edges? Or is this question just a little wishful thinking?:(

murphman, see if you can find a pair of the little gerber infant nail clippers. check the baby section at walmart, they may have them.

they're about 2/3 the size of small "normal" nail clippers and quite sharp. i'll occasionally get a bad cut with them, but they are better than anything else i've tried.

A good pair of hair cutting scissors work well and give clean cuts. Keep in mind thoe, if you cut anything else but the braid there as good as junk. ;)....Tightlines

Get a Gerber multi-plier. Has fisker scissors and can`t be beat for a fishing tool. I prefer 400 compact sport because I carry in pocket instead of on the belt. Drum Bum

sandcrab I have heard that fireline can cut other peoples fishing line if it lands just right on the other line. I heard that but I am not positive.

It does. I use it on my plugging rod, but I never use it in close quarters. If you get tangled with someone using mono it'll tear them to pieces.

JUST REMEMBER GUYS IT IS NOT A BACKLASH. IT IS PROFESSIONAL OVERCAST RIGHT.
my dad's words he loved baitcasters in one breath and cussed them in the other.
I still have a couple of Ocean City baitcasters that he used. Man you talk about old reels.

I just had a chance to use my two Abu 6500C4 with 40# power pro and it was awesome. I still managed to get pretty good distance with strong winds blowing inland. I can't wait to actually catch something though.

Murph, try using a knife to cut the braid, I find it gives a gives a cleaner cut than scissors. Also you can get rid of frayed ends with a flame (I always keep a cigarette lighter in the fishing bag).

Sand Flea, I used to have the same concern till I saw this post by Cdog where he deliberately attempted to cut mono with fire line.

I tried the same thing with power pro and confirmed what Cdog found. No way will braid saw thru mono. I even tried increasing the weight on the mono till it broke but it broke at the knot and not at the point that I was sawing with the braid.

My bro using power pro casted while standing under another rod we had spooled with 15# mono. It cut through the mono the second he let go of the power pro. It was a very clean cut.

Power Pro unlike other braids has a teflon coating and a round profile (at least that's what the mfg. says) while other braids have a profile more like multi edged weed wacker line. However the Power Pro will still cut the s#*t out of your finger.

Catman, true about the finger but I got a nasty cut surf casting with mono. I always use a finger guard when distance casting – regardless of the line type.
