OK, I`m sure you`ve all noticed that when you dismantle a reel with instant anti-reverse for cleaning, after reasembly the anti-reverse is sloppy. How do you properly grease the roller bearing for like new performance? This one has stumped me for some time. Thanx, Drum Bum

Does anybody have any experience on this subject? Any input would be appreciated. Maybe I should query Black Beard. Drum Bum

I have noticed, if you apply too much grease, it will produce a clicking sound on retrieve with the spool under some pressure.
I go very light, if any grease in the IAR area. Note, The bearings in question are German made INA brand, P/N F223251 one way bearings, common to ABU and Quantum reels. Other brands/types may not exhibit this clicking sound with over greasing.

Thanx Surfslinger, info is appreciated, but more wondering how to keep the bearing working like it should i.e. no back play. Every time I try to lube, its always sloppy in that regard. Every reel with instant anti reverse IO have had has done this. The only thing I can figure is they put special lube in at the factory. Anyone else have ideas on this subject? Drum Bum

Drum Bum, I have used white lithium grease in spray form. A little goes a long way. It's not too thick but thick enough to do the job.

DB, what reels are we talking about???
I have some reels (Quantum bait-casters) that always have a small amount of back-play even when brand new, and has nothing to do with the IAR bearing, but the sleeve that is in the IAR bearing. I am working on a fix.
ABU sleeves are "keyed" to the main shaft, and do not rotate very much when turned against the IAR bearing. The Quantum sleeves are not internally keyed, and have a bit more slop till it locks up, even though the IAR bearing is the exact same INA bearing.
If you are having problems with an ABU reel, than perhaps clean out the gunk (if there is gunk) from the rollers/under the plastic fingers, and add a tiny amount of light oil?
Attached is a pic to demonstrate what I am taking about concerning internally keyed/not keyed sleeves.
