How long do you make two hook rigs for pan fish? Distance from connecter loop or swivel to first dropper ,first dropper to second and second dropper to sinker. How long of droppers? Does different lengths work better for different species?
Thanks. KB.

Kb, I tie all my rigs by hand. I tie king fish to tuna. I have found that depending on water depth, srtucture, and species will determine how long the rig is and how far the hooks are spaced out. Usually my top & bottom rigs are between 36 and 42 inches. I try to space all components evenly. It gets more dificult if you make mackerel rigs were you're tying three or more hooks. But the idea is the same. Hope this helps.

I usually just eyeball my high low rigs. I tie a surgeon's loop at the end for the sinker, two dropper loops for the hooks, and a barrel swivel at the end. This is how I usually try to space them apart:

barrel swivel, 6-10 inches of line, dropper loop, 8-12 inches of line, dropper loop, 6-10 inches of line, surgeon's loop

You can make the dropper loops short if you use pre-tied hooks, or the dropper loop longer if you only have hooks. If you use quality mono or leader material, it will be a lot cheaper than using high-low rigs that you buy in the store and of equal or better quality. Hope this helps.

Kb, I snell my my hooks with a uni-knot snell, barrel swivel at the top and clip at the bottom. Depending on what I'm fishing for and what size hooks I'm using will determine the number of wraps on the hook. I use a clinch knot on the top for the swivel and a double clinch knot on the bottom for the snap. The fist hook, (top) I usually wrap half of the shank approx 16-18 wraps for larger hooks and 12-14 for medium and 8-10 for smaller hooks. The second hook (bottom) is about the same. If you are not using a snap at the bottom but using a 3-way swivel and snap at the top, the bottom hook you can wrap about half of what you wrapped the top. Go up on line and cjeck the different fishing sites for knot type or check your local bait shops for a book called "The little red book of not tying" (not sure of the exact title) but you'll know it because the book is red. Up here it costs about $5.00. worth its weight in gold!!!!
