Where is the voting button for "Dissapointed that Norfolk didn't get the team"?

As a resident of the District, I should be happy, but I'm not really as excited as others. I grew up with the O's. I am not sure how its going to effect attendance at the yard. I dont care if angelos gets $$ to compensate for the competition. It will be tough to play as hard with 1/2 this years attendance gone. Maybe ticket prices will drop, but I think they are pretty affordable now, at $15 for upperdeck.

I am not excited to pay for a new baseball stadium in the district at all.

It will probably turn out just like the skins: People paying rediculously high ticket prices to watch a team consistently underacheive. DC fans seem happy to do it, might as well give them what they want.

Money Talks. I'm trying to figure out where they're going to place the stadium in the district. I sure hope they don't put it out by Dulles because I'm already sick of the traffic woes there are at the 66/ 495 interchange. I know the Mayor of DC is trying to build up Anacsotia so it looks decent. Perhaps they will drop it in over there. I'm assuming it will be Metro accessible. I wonder how it will affect the whole slot machine casino issue as well.

Norfolk cries again...

Go Yanks!

I hope they can compete, maybe if the owners have deep, deep, pockets. We've had mediocre (at best) baseball in Pittsburgh for years, and without a salary cap, I don't see it getting any better. Just out of curiosity, when was the last time anyone heard of the game being referred to as America's pastime? I apologize for my cynical views, I really am happy for you folks to finally get a team back after all these years, I just think baseball as a whole is in big trouble.

All anyone has to say is "66" and "Rushhour" and the Dulles stadium idea is dead. The anacostia is a great place for a stadium. But if the stadium is metro accessible you dont get to charge $25 for parking to everyone who wants to come to the game. Is that why the skins moved the stadium to Landover? I like the Anacostia location the best (after Norfolk ).

I wonder how much of a cut the church at FedEx Field gets every home game? I remember reading an article on how it used to be illegal to walk to FedEx field. Illegal to walk! Can you imagine that? I know you can take the orange line and then take a bus to the field. I don't remember all of the details because it was an article on the Washington Post's Express, the morning newspaper magazine. Oh wait, I can't wait for another increase in fares by Metro due to increased use and wear and tear on their cars and infrastructure!

Let them put the new stadium in Anacostia. Last year in the police district I work in they had 2700 stolen cars. I will be great go to the game, come out to find that you are stranded in SE because some juvenile stole your car and went joy riding. The city is going to have to do a lot of thinking before they build a stadium. I also heard some talk of Eminent Domain. Where in, the DC government would decide where to put it and just buy every one out in the area if they wanted it or not. Lets see what happens.

HighCap, "Hampton Roads" didn't have a prayer if for no other reason we couldn't handle the traffic. Its hard enough to get around without adding a bunch of people comming in to see a game with how screwed up our roads are now.

Hey, Cdog!!

My exact thought!!!!
that's why i'm happy that D.C. got it...
as if the traffic over there isn't bad enough now...sheesh......
last time I've visited D.C. trying to look for a place, I've got lost and stuck in there for hours and hours.
when I go fishing in greater norfolk area, I usually use 64, well that's the only way I know, and have to cross hampton bridge tunnel, and even now I get stuck in traffic there and lose my precious fishing time.......imagine that with stadium traffic!!!!
Thank Goodness D.C. got it!!!!
keep the traffic up there

After checking everyones profile

it is very clear to me one other person in this thread has the age to remember BB in Wash DC. I hate to break to you guys but DC is a BIG BB town! Thats why they have been working for so many years to get it back and now they have it back.

I don't think BB in DC will hurt the O's, infact it could help them. It will renew a intrest in BB and that will have DC fans going to B-more games and B-more fans comming to DC games.

Who it could hurt is the Skins. Back when DC had the Senators BB was the big franchise, not Football. Either way learn to live with it, it's a done deal. In 2005 there will be a Baseball team playing in Washington DC someplace. All I can say is, BRING IT ON! .....Tightlines

I can remember going to DC to watch the Senators play. Looking forward to seeing some NL BB again. Now that the O's won't have the only BB in town maybe they'll get off of deadcenter and spend some money on some quality players and become competitive again.

If DC is such a huge baseball town, why have they lost their baseball team twice?

The DC team is actually growing on me. It will be nice to have the Nat League in the area. And, with interleague play, it will be cool to see them play the O's. It'll be like the Yanks v Mets, or Oakland v San Fran.

Baltimore v DC in the World Series 2010!

It will be interesting to see how much the team is sold for. The last two teams that were sold went for about $180M. I think that MLB is expecting to get $300M+ for the Expos. Seems a little steep.

Who can forget Frank Howard playing first base

for the Washington Senators?

Another tidbit, did you know Fidel Castro tried out for the first DC BB team!

Baseball

Norfolk had a hard time managing to get 3000 people game game for the TIDES, Ya really think they can support a team that will require 25,000 a game just to break even?

This area is not ready for any BIG TIME sporting activity.

Even the NATIONWIDE TOUR is a dud here, but it does well at the other towns it goes to.

The Admirals were big here..........But couldn't manage to sell enough tickets to support being here.

I am super happy that Norfolk did not get an MLB team. A ticket for a AAA game is about $10, that will triple for a MLB game. And what do you get for three times the money? overpriced babies who half ass it. I would rather see a AAA game any day because those kids play their hearts out.

The tides would have left Norfolk if they had gotten a major league team? O's tix are $15. Even cheaper some nights.
