Mac users?

Ten years ago I gave up on Mac. I got sick of the crappy operating system, frequent crashes, etc.

A month ago, I gave up on Microsoft. I got sick of the crappy operating system, blah blah blah.

So here I sit with a new iMac. I'm still feeling my way around and getting used to some of the tics of this new OS but I'm loving this thing.

Hoping to start a nerd flamewar,
sf

Trying to get my e-mail moved over is a bear... *.pst sucks.

Right now I'm trying to shove everything into a more open standard (Thunderbird's mbox) but the Mac ain't having it.

So now I'm fully migrated and taking my time to learn my way around.

If you're considering getting a new machine, you should really take a second look at this thing. I've mocked Mac users for years but this new operating system is blowing me away. It makes a PC look like a model T--and I HATED Macs for years.

For the computer noobs, the thing is a breeze. For the geeks, you can drop back into the Unix shell with a keystroke...I mean, damn.

I cannot tell you how cool this thing is...

Flea,

Yes, I'm thinking about getting a Mac also. I believe the operating system is unix based now and can be very powerful. Have you ever been to the Apple store in tysons? Its pretty amazing.

Being in the technology field myself, I code mainly on Windoz machine but have experience on Linux. I think people at Apple found a niche with iPod, ibooks and etc... Combination of user friendly interface with a flexibility of unix based machines...

That reminds me to buy some shares for apple...

I've always liked the Mac. Unfortunately, most of the world uses Micro$oft. If Mac OS had been marketed as nasty as Bill Gates marketed Micro$oft we might life in a different computer world.

How much in software tax did you pay to Bill Gates this year? You might be surprised.

It's the cost of the hardware and software that kept me away from Apple all these years. They are amazing for graphics in the right hands, but I'll stick with my PC for now.

Dude, a basic Mac costs the same thing as a PC these days. It's crossing all your data over that's a pain in the butt.

One day none of this will matter. We're all migrating our data over to the web and eventually it won't matter what platform you're on--Unix will rule

I can't get the suckers wholesale. Being a dealer all these years has spoiled me to getting quality for cheap. Might be a different story if I could.

Still, most of the Mac Software is pricey and I don't have that "Hook Up" so to speak...

I do agree about Unix. Powerful platform, low cost, just need more apps with idiot friendly desktop shells.
