Reel Trouble
This has happened to me with a few of my reels in the past, some sooner and others later. The problem is that the line does not stay in place or catch. It's as if I shifted the switch behind the spool of the reel from drag to no drag.

Any suggestions on how to fix or prevent would be much appreciated. I'm pretty good about washing my reels off with freshwater and keeping the sand out. |

????
If it is a Penn SS series reel, the most common problem is the anti-reverse dog. They wear easily and require regular replacement.
If its a conventional, an abu, depending on the age and model, same type of dog, only its under the main gear and one of the thin brass sleeves is probably damaged. Newer models have an IAR bearing. Hope some of this gets you started. |
