Fished the causeway from about 10:30pm to 1:30am. A few nibbles, and two small croakers (8-9 inch). I moved to the left side of the point and on my first cast I had a fish on before I could even set my drag. Turned out to be a pretty nice croaker. The next cast, had the same result. After reeling in my second fish, I finally got my other rod set up and it immediately had a fish on (a 20" rockfish). The action stayed like that for about two hours. I fished the point from about 2am to 5:30am, although the bite died off between 4:30 and 5am.
I ended up catching 8 croaker (only kept the three that were over 12 inches long), 2 small spot (used one for cut bait - no luck with the cut bait - released the other), and 3 rockfish (2 8-9 inchers, and 1 20"). I didn't keep 20" rockfish although, I probably could've gotten away with it. I didn't want to screw with the great fishing karma I had going.
Once I moved to the point, I had steady pullage for about 2 hours (wish I'd started there). All the croakers were caught on clam-flavored fishbites, and all of the spot and rockfish were caught on bloodworms.
On my way out, I stopped by the pier and heard that they had had a run of rockfish about the same time I caught my three. They said that the fish were schooled up and feeding right in front of the pier. The largest caught was 27".
