Me and FLF tried out luck at the rt.50 bridge with mixed results. The night fishing was very slow, one nice trout caught by another and some small blues and stripers. There were large schools of bunker swimming around and we snagged a few to liveline. I had a really nice run on one but it got off. Then next morning we tried flounder fishing and it was really hot. We caught around 60 but only caught one keeper. It was 19 inches and caught by FLF. We also lost some really nice ones. Most of the flounder were in the 12-15 inch range. They were hitting minnows and squid and we even caught a few on bass assassins. Overall a good trip.

Anthony, me and the wife must have just
missed you guys. We drove down Saturday
afternoon for our Sunday Morning Star
trip. (I put our report under the boating
section) Did you guys flounder fish from one
of the local headboats?

Nope we just fished off the bridge. And man was it hot! We saw a few small boats drifting and they were pulling em in two at a time. Next time we are going to rent a small boat and do the same. Like Anthony said most were around the 15 inch range but I lost at least 5 that were over 20 inches. Great day and a nice tan to prove it :D

Yeah, the heat was bad on Sunday also!
Capt Monty had to turn a fan on inside the
boat to help keep people cool. A few guys
stopped fishing and sat inside because it was
just too hot for them. If you get a boat next
time you can stop at the sandbar on the other
side of the 50 bridge and get a few buckets
of clams while you are out there. It's real
easy all you do is use your feet to feel around
for the clams.

Yeah Anthony and I talked about that. There must have been 5 or 6 boats doing the same thing. They must have gotten a lot of them because a few of them were there most of the day.

Good report, sounds like a good time. I'm planning on heading down to OC this weekend and I had a few questions:
1) where do you park to fish the rt 50 bridge?
2) do you need a pier net to retrieve fish?
3) what are the current flounder size regs?
Thanks,
M.J.

Parking for the bridge is best when you get to the end of the bridge heading out of O.C. You can park either on the left or right hand side of the bridge. There are usually a couple of cars parked on either side. The regs for flounder are 16" and only 3 per day. Yes you will definately need a pier net unless you want to lose that big old flounder. Good luck to you and tight lines.

Yeah parking where Flash said is good. But you can't be parked there between the hours of midnight and 5 am. (don't know why) That side is better for flounder anyway because it is not as deep as the other side. Minnows with squid strips all the way! Good Luck!
