I cuss like a sailor and have the manners of a bluefish in a chum slick. That said the profanity, stupid comments and downright ignorance on this new board is leaving a bad taste in my mouth.

Maybe it's time to ban all comments about politics and religion and leave everything else as fair game...

Either that or I drop this board and delete all non-fishing comments.

If someone can't express their feelings on the BS Board maybe you'd better drop it. I thought that was the purpose of this board. As long as there isn't a personal attack on a member what's the harm? But then again it's your forum so I guess you can do what you want.

I enjoy the jokes as well as the continual ribbing of the Red Skins. :)

I do not enjoy the politics as there will ALWAYS be one or two that will suck the life out of you with their views.

At least no one has started the "My Church is Better than YOUR Church" thread.

I come from a huge ecommerce forum Moderator background. We had there (and still do) a "Non-Business" section.

For over a month after incept, that section developed some of the worst attitudes in those Forums and it spread to the entire community.

Why? No one could remain civil in a religious or political discussion.

Thus - Those topics were summarilary dissalowed.

The section is FINE without them now and occassionaly a Moderator will nix something with a political overtone, but it stil thrives as a decent section.

Please consider eliminating the problem, but not the section as a whole.

Maybe it time for that BS board Moderator that discussed earlier.

Cat, you're not hearing me. I don't care if people express themselves--I just don't want to hear hatefullness and profanity.

Every single board on this site will be civil and kid-friendly. Talk about whatever you want but keep it within the same rules as the rest of the site.

SandFlea,

It's a small group right now. About 99%
of the folks that post on the BS board
respect the rules. I did notice one
particularly bad series of posts and made
my feelings known. Got blown off
in a sly kind of way but then again, there
is no "Sheriff" to police that 1% who just
do not care. Most are relatively new users
who just jump on the board to stir up trouble.
I think that one of the regular users of the
BS Board should be selected as Moderator
with the task of monitoring language and
civility and should stay in the background.

I vote for Talapia to be the new BS board moderator. The reason is that I see his posts on almost every threads.

I agree with Sandflea you can express your opinion without the use of hatefullness and profanity. I see a board like this work in other places and I still think that the best people are on this board so we should all be able to act like sane people.

Instead of dropping of the BS board, how about a temporary lockout on someone's account after such an infraction is made. This decision will be made by the board moderator. I'm only saying a temporary ban instead of a permanent ban because some people may have dropped some clams for membership to this board. I personally like the BS Board, a different kind of interaction with everyone else. I think very little of it is negative.

upon review of a particular thread (politics), the ones causing all of the riff raff are just registered users. I don't know if that's reason to make the site exclusive only to paying members. I would hate to see some members disappear because of a $10/donation that can be used as a tax write off.

Flea... I guess I wasn't hearing you but heck at 3:30 in the morning I'm not hearing much of anything 'cept the dog wanting to go out. After giving it some thought I'm in agreement.

Kids hear far worse than what I have seen on this board by far.

Go by Green Run high School and listen to what comes out of thier mouths when they are walking to and from school.

I kinda went outta bounds with a " Term" I had used and Talapia was quick to point it out. And I respect that. This Is a good side board for the PIER AND SURF community.

FirstMateFluff and I have been in a heated debate over politics, But we have also Messaged each other on the side. I have no Ill will towards him and I seriously doubt that he has any for me.

Views are a great thing to stimulate others, wether it be politics, racing, fishing.......or whatever. It often leads to people doing a little research on thier own and finding thier own views.

You have a nice WEBSITE SandFlea, I would like to see you keep up the BS board, even if it is moderated.

Can I bribe ya with a little "BANDWIDTH SUPPORT MONEY ? " ......... just a little rib at FirstMateFluff...................couldn't resist!!!!!

Never been big on politics, makes a lot of friends enemys. There are many forums where you can talk politics, I'm here to find fishing info, help others catch some fish, and make a few friends. I think a ban on politics, and I guess religion if you feel that is necessary, should be implemented.

i'm gonna have to agree on the no politics and religion. THese topics just seem to cause trouble. I know on several other forums i visit they are kept separate and it works out well

Got to vote for a No when it comes to
a ban on politics (I aint going anywhere
near religion though! ;) ) This is a BS
Board and the elections are coming up
in a few days. Weve got debates on
TV and a whole lot of legitimate issues
that are worth mentioning. I think that
the point was made on civility and
language.

Me personally, I hold nothing personal, permanent or temporarily against anyone as to the thread in question. As stated earlier, a "slang" term was put forth, and was quickly pointed out, and personally I didn't and don't agree with the term that was used. Me, call some one what they are, me I am a Polock, whoopie (hope I can call myself that), but more important I am an American. Some come here to better themselves (and many take the jobs we don't want), others are here for an education (sometimes I have a hard time figuring why, with better educational opportunities elsewhere they would come here). Honestly, I really don't believe in titles such as Polish American, African American, I feel it is such that we should be happy to be Americans, illegals and other terms, also bother me, problem with that is, some are legal aliens, illegal aliens and legal migrant workers (and I wouldn't be able to tell the difference if I met them personally, so who am I to judge), dang I'm rambling,

Leave it to, we should watch certain things (language and name calling), politics and thus discussions will be part of life, be it hunting the black bear in Western MD, or what's up with the menhaden (BUNKER), or what candidate is more "sportsman" friendly, so technically, we ban political discussions, we couldn't discuss these issues either.

Okay Sand, I'll shut up

It is very amusing and stimulating but name calling and bad language doesn't need to happen.

Wow, Lannon and I agree on one! ;)

My 2 cents is this:

Lannon is absolutely correct, you don't have to go far at all to find worse than you are seeing here.

Additionally, I would point out that I (and Lannon and others, I assume) have kept politics out of anywhere else, so there has been no "carryover" issue.

This is, also, a clearly marked "BS Board". Furthermore, my topic was clearrly marked "politics--forwarning to anyone who doesn't want to read" which was meant to be a pretty obvious flag. As someone lese pointed out, there is a debate tonight and an election for the highest offfice in the US coming in just under a month......plus the topic was originally brought up based upon fisheries and mercury.

I guess overall, my feelings are we are all adults, nobody has started to name-call, and things have been a bit heated, but not uncivil to the point where peoples mothers are being brought in, etc. If its an issue, it is your board, Sandflea, but most of the people concerned don't sem upset, and the message was really, REALLY clearly marked for anyone who wants to avoid politics.

you don't have to read them if you don't want to...what does "BS" stand for?....but there is no need for cussing or personal attacks....lets agree to dissagree ..imo

With that said, IMO the BS Board needs a forum Moderator more then any other board on P&S. Without one, trust me it will get out of hand! ;)....Tightlines

I don't think anything on this board has gotten out of control. If a person only comes on pier and surf to talk fishing, then all they have to do is avoid this portion of the board. Sand Flea... you list politics as one of your interests... don't you want to hear the political views of your fellow anglers?

That being said, it is your board and you can do whatever you want... you don't have to give warnings or explanations, but I am happy that you are allowing us to voice our concerns.

*smacks forehead*

I guess I'll keep saying this over and over and over and over until it gets through. Talk about whatever subjects you want AS LONG AS IT DOESN'T INVOLVE RUDENESS AND PROFANITY.

The only reason I talked about the possibility of dropping political stuff from the board is because it seems to cause people to fly off the handle. (Shoebag, take a look at the political thread) Bash Bush, bash Kerry. I don't care as long as you keep it inside the rules of civilized behavior.

Most of the nasty stuff has died down in the last week or two, so it's not as much of an issue as when I first posted this. And I'm still reluctant on the moderator--it could very easily turn into a situation where a person starts dumping comments just because they don't agree with them and then people start yelling censorship! censorship! Ya'll know the rules by now. This is my last comment on the subject.

Over and out.
