I will be in Oak Island NC the first week in july with the grand kids. I live in Indiana and do most of my fishing on the Great Lakes trolling for walleye and salmon. Need info for surf and pier fishing. This will be new to me so I need alot of help. Any info would be helpful. Thanks
Would be glad to share with ya all the free advice you'll need while fishing our area waters. Surf or Pier. Visit and ask for Dave at Ocean Crest Pier.

i dont know if you want to spend alot of money fortackle for the grandkids and yourself so you might want to check down there for rentals.but if you fish eveyday it could be cheaper to by.for the surf you will need a rod stiff enough to throw 3 to 8 oz of weight and a length the grandkids can throw most are 9 to 12 feet the kids might need 6 to 8 foot. you probably already have spinning reels that will work just fine something that will hold 200 plus yards of 20# line.now get some bottom rigs ,3,6,and 8 oz weights, hooks that you can just attach to the bottom rigs,2/0 and 4/0, swivels,3 foot sand spikes and a rubber hammer.for the pier you dont need a long rod it should be able to throw 3oz of weight just use the same bottom rig and get some gotcha plugs.
