Hello. Myself and several family members will be vacationing in Monteray Shores the first full week in June. Our rented house is right next to the sound. I was wondering if there is any fish to be caught there and if so, what bait to use.

Last year we rented a boat and fished the sound for abit. I just used worms and had a problem with the crabs jumping all over my worms. Could anyone give me a idea what is in the sound to catch and the best way to rig my rod?

Thanks a bunch.

Sorry I didn't specify better. We will be in the Outer Banks near Corrola. According to the map, it is the Currituck Sound.

Corolla = SSSSSSSUUUUUUCCCKKKK.

Instead of wasting time up there, take a ride down to Kitty Hawk or KDH (the south-er the better) and fling some panfish baits on one of the piers.

As Darkness suggested piers would be the first option.. You can also rig you a 7' rod with 8lb test.Go to local shops like TW'S,get some advice on what grubs and other lures have been good for the trout.Try either behind Bodie Island,or maybe the small bridge towards Manns Harbor,I've heard they have been catching a few speckle trout.

For the piers,Avolon would be my first choice.If you only have light tackle,rig a piece of 30lb test mono to the same type rod as mentioned above. Tie on a gotcha plug,they'll catch most all that swims. A standard bottom rig will get lots of nice panfish as well..

Catwalk at OI can be good as well,with standard bottom rig,and doesn't cost anything to go.

I recommend checking in with Keith @ TW's in Corolla when you get there...
