Just bought a boat and I want to see if anyone on the board has done research on the best (cheapest, least hassle) place to register it. I live in DC and keep the boat in VA and spend a lot of time boating in VA, DC and MD. I understand you are supposed to register a boat in the state in which you use it the most. For the sake of argument let's say I use it equally in all three - where should I register it based on initail costs to register it (sales taxes, registration fees, titling for both the boat and trailer) and the least hassle (inspections of trailer, boat, etc). I also of course want to consider ongoing expenses of yearly personal property taxes, if any, and yearly registration fees. Any assistance would be appreciated.
