:D Greetings fellow fish hunters... I wanted to share yesterday's adventure to the CLT with you all. Left Hampton Marina at 6am with Jim Baugh and a couple of fellas for some Spadefish action at the tower. The Bay was slick calm and eerily hazy as we sliced through the water at a brisk pace... The haze always decreases the visibility, but on hot summer days, it's sometimes a welcome thing helping to keep the heat down a little... Sped past Cape Henry, and the ocean too was slick calm and made the ride out very enjoyable.. Arrived at the tower and about 10 or so enthusiastic boat crews had already begun the days pullage on the delightful Spades... We opted to stay a good distance away from the structure to avoid any potential headaches that often occur at the CLT parking lot... I think we were probably 75-100yards off the WSW corner.... The water was gorgeous and visibility great as we set anchor and started the routine of baiting small hooks with clam and gazing into the depths l00king for fish... It took awhile, but eventually the schools came circling around and after some sun peeked thru they began finning in mass in every direction. Despite the extremely high numbers of fish, overall the bite was slow and a bit frustrating... Several factors including lack of current, and plenty of jellyfish contributed to the picky eaters. Not to be left out were the sauna like conditions with high humidity, no breeze, and some serious heat from the sun when it poked out....We attempted several different tactics and after scaling things down to a bare minimum started our slow pick of 20"+ fishies.... You have to love Spadefish; those things pull like monsters from the deep, and aside from that make for some tremendous dining.... As boats fled the tower, the fish activity increased and we managed to boat several fish to the delight of everyone on board... Managed some great footage for a future airing of Jim Baugh Outdoors, and made some good friends sharing many jokes and a passion for pullage... Around 3pm or so, the slick conditions gave way to a ripple and then to some wave action from the east, and after boating a fish that when netted produced 2 other counterparts, we called the day a success and motored on back to the dock happy campers... My THANKS to Jim Baugh for the chance to join him and do some camera work, as well as some angling, and to the fellas that joined us for all the laughs and memories.... Thanks for l00king in and Fish On
