Need some help. The motor runs fine in neutral, and revs up with no problems. Soon as I put it in gear it's like I'm dragging the dock behind me. Will only rev to 3K with top speed at 18 MPH at WOT. The boat is a 23' ProLIne WA. Any suggestions short of have a Merc mechanic look at it. Thanks for any help.

Catfish,
if it seems to be running right but not getting up to full rpm then i would change my fuel/water separator cartridge and check all my fuel lines to be sure they are clear and not sucking in air. I would also run some Seafoam gas treatment which is available at NAPA auto supply around here and most other auto stores. it is a great product for cleaning fuel systems.
you could also post a question on www.walleyecentral.com in the walleye boats and motors forum. there are a lot of guys who know outboards that post there and i believe you would get some help. they won't mind that you don't have a walleye boat:)
good luck,
jerry

Thanks Jerry. Seafoam is what my Merc shop manual calls for.
