its to freaking hot gonna leave my pole at home and go down to the "HOT TUB"/beach and boil sum eggs in the water. :--| :--| plus im sick of trying to convince someone that their 55 inch redfish didnt weigh 105POUNDS under the virginia threads. ive caught 52 inchers off tybee and they were no where near 105 pounds maybe 45 pounds and i dont think 3 more inches makes that big of a difference!! he said he uses some formula based on lenght and girth but i tend to prefer using a set of SCALES!!!!!!!!!! 105 pound red whatever.....that fish would be 65 plus inches. maybe 70.

It's just an estimate. No actual evidence so it's not official.

But yes, water is super hot. I wonder if those fish are sweating down there too.

Personally, I love that estimation technique. If I followed that formula, maybe that fish I caught today was 10 pounds instead of just 3 and maybe my biggest redfish EVER (51 inches) was about 80 pounds instead of the 40 that the scales said. I think I will start using that formula instead. ;)

This was the world record until David Dual broke it with his fish of 58 and a half inch fork length fish.... (Sorry for the poor quality of the photo as you can see it was scaned from a newspaper clipping.. This fish,I don't remember the exact wieght :rolleyes:It was over 80lbs though..Was caught off Rodanthe Pier.. It was the IGFA all tackle record for many yrs,now it is still the existing 30lb class world record red drum This is where we have to agree to disagree, this fish ain't no 60" fish.. ;)

I'll try to get a pic of Dual's fish if you like, but it is not over 60" either...

And we are also in agreement with the formula length X girth squared divided by 800= wieght.. It can be close at times but is by no means perfect...

THX DD. I haven't said anything on this "issue/post" to avoid raising the ire of the new record big red crowd etc, etc, etc, that has been on this and many other web sites ... glad to see your also surf fishin' in my reality

The length-girth calculator should be shit bagged, re-calibrated for fish type, or hey allow for the weigh in/potential kill of  a fish that may actually be a new world record, if one is so sure it be one ;)

Aforementioned would require big minimum requirements or big penalties for being either not a new record or some exceptional minimum weight (read close to said record)

Oh that's right this novel concept will piss off the PETA, Piping Plover, and C&R how dare ye kill such a beautiful beast crowd, whatever ?!

Anyway the guy went to Ocracoke, caught and then released (C&R'd) a fish of a life time ... a reallly "Big Red" ... a slug that probably weighed ~80lb maybe even 90lbs max by my surf calculator guesstimater :p which pert near doubles my personal biggest reds (42-46"/40-45lb class) :)

Anyway yes its hot out and I digress :--|

So go fish or swim in AC,

Nice fat fish, big fish, and the guy holding it was big as well,so it WAS DEFINATLY BIG.. :p Compairing it to the two monster records,IMHO, it was close to 80 class, but not as big as Dual's or Hooper's.. I've only seen one fish that looked as big as that mount of Hooper's in Rodanthe Pier or Dual's in F&F's,that one was lost by a freind off Avon Pier.. :D

PS Made a new resolution,I ain't discussin plovers... ;) :p

deuel's fish was 58-59 inches94lbs, my argument is that a 105plus pound red would be all of 60 if not more probally more like a fish story!!!! goin to the hot tub later gonna boil some shrimp!!!!!!
