Not hitting the bay this weekend but will try my luck on the Upper Potomac near Whites Ferry. Has anyone waded it recently? Is it as bad as the Shenandoah this year?

I been spending my time on the UP, but way up river from Whites Ferry. I'm not sure how to answer your question. I fished the Doah once this year and I caught many small bass. You will have a hard time finding the big ones at Doah.
Now, for the UP, it's decent. This weekend I didn't do too well, but that's because I been trying different stretches of water and techniques. I see lots of bass raise to the surface with size. Go give it a try if you're targeting the bass.

My report from last couple weeks was pretty damn good...water was crystal clear and fish of all species everywhere. This came from several boating carp-parties that took to the UP; me and my guests were invited to haul our river jon up to join in the festivities but we're onto serious fish in a few new tidal areas and wanted to see this particular project through. If you get a chance to fish UP, GO!!

Fished the Harpers Ferry area on Sat. Started very early, but still didn't do much a few smallies, but the water had to be 85  Too hot... Nobody was doing much. The water was very clear, and had a good flow for this time of year, but the fishing is slow in my opinion. You need to fish early or late, and I recommend slowing down you presentation and finding deep water... Even then with these temps conditions are tough. I think I will be waiting for cooler temps until returning.

Thanks Timber. I remember back in our last big drought a few years ago the conditions were similar but not so hot. The fishing was great...everything was in concentrated areas and the big fish came out like clock work right before dark.

Timberfish,
I fished the weekend before at Harpers Ferry and it was slow then too. Sure not like it was when you cast a spinner and have something hit it every other cast like the previous weekends. And the water has been really warm, around 85 as you say.

I agree, I have been fishing the UP for 20 of my 32 years and over the past few years things have really been taking a turn for the worse, with regards to larger fish and just total fish. I am sure it is a combination of people keeping the bigger fish, and poor water conditions. I keep going back because it is just on of the most beautifull places I know and there are just so many great little places to cast. Let's hope things get better, but for now I think I will wait till cooler temps to reactivate the few fish that are around.
