I have gone to tybee for the last two weeks and it has been slow as hell. I got one 35-40# sting ray and a couple of shark. nothing else but feeding the crabs. where did the crabs come from and why has it died so quickly in tybee. this is the deadest I have ever seen tybee in the last couple of years. :( Anyone with any ideas, any places doing good right now?

the crabs are here spawning in the surf as always this time of year. the fishing is a little slow because the water is hot. best time to fish is briefly early in the morning. try live bait instead of cut the crabs will have a harder time getting to it and finding it with a good lenght leader.

Tis hot my friend! Yesterday while coming back from Gray's Reef we encountered large mixed schools of spanish, jacks, ladyfish feeding on large balls of tiny fish. Great fun while they are around the boat. Oh yeah, we were about 1/2 mile off Ossabaw.

Have not encountered any menhaden schools on the beach (off Tybee) or in the river entrance while poking around there this morning on my yak.

Be patient...

i think the fish are staying in the channels and just offshore were they can find some relief in deeper water from the hot shallow water on the beach and sand bars.

Gray's Reef is a great fishing spot. Unfortunately it requires a boat to get to it. State record king came off there last year, almost 75 lbs.!!!

The fishing was fantastic. We were the only ones out there save for the dive boat that came a little later. I went out with my neighbor who just bought a Grady White 26ft. This was his (and my) maiden voyage to Gray's Reef. It is not fully rigged for trolling (yet) so we decided to do a little bottom fishing and flat lined some of the small stuff we caught on king rigs.

Saw a big shark out there. It was a tiger about 12'. She would appear from time to time around the boat. Freaked out my friend. I was wishing I had a larger hook and some heafty steel. I'm glad we didn't because it was such a beautiful fish and she would have been easy to hook. I believe she would have easily taken a live lined spanish. I'm sure the folks diving saw it too.

Caught 4 kings largest was 22lbs. A 3 1/2 foot barracuda, couple of large jack crevelle and a pile of spanish all caught on light gear. 7ft med action rods/penn 712/15 # test.

There has lots of surface activity. Spanish were all over the place. While casting for these a with small mirror lure, I hooked a small king about 15 lbs on my really light small pole with 8# test. Talk about fun. We also hooked a decent king with a quarter size peice of squid on the bottom. I've never seen anything like that before. Soon as it was hooked, it shot for the surface and straightened the small hook. I was jacking him too hard.

We fished for about 4 hours and then headed back. While waiting for a t-storm to pass before heading back to Kilkeny, we followed some mixed schools of jack c.'s, ladyfish and spanish off Ossabaw until we grew tired of that.

It was an awesome day.
