Hi Guys, When do the larger Blues and Stripers show up off Assateague? I am trying to plan a trip for sometime in September or October. Thanks, Tom :)

Mid October/November, though we start in mid-Septmber when bugs and tourons are gone, and fish into December.

Hey Shaggy, I'm going to be out of action starting in the beginning of November for a little hip replacement surgery so if you guys would save me a spot in a few of you Sept & Oct trips I'd really appreciate it.

FYI: red drum show up on AI in Sept/Oct, too....I'm going to take a shot at them this year. To be honest, Sept/Oct is a bit early for the big migrating rock....better to plan for the weeks around Thanksgiving. They come down the coast in pulses--you can track them by the postings online. It all depends on water temps (shoot for 55-60 (?)) with 50 being the generally accepted lower limit....good luck, Saintjerome

Nick, I'll get together with the guys and figure out a good date to get ya out on your bad hip  , sure we can come up with something, then hopefully come Spring, you really can be comfortable enough for the Spring run.

Drum, agree, late September/early October, but the run is pretty short, so iffin' ya blinked ya missed it. Seems to last about ten days to two weeks. Suddenly here, then suddenly gone, and usually the reports of the drum are after the fact because of the short window.

Anyhow, preparing to head north, and hopefully enjoy the last few days of my vacation.

Will say, no fish this way, but did have some fun in the sun with the family none the less.

Shaggy:

Here's one for you: where the flip do these drum come from? They're heading south...but from where?......(please don't say "Jersey":--| )

Most guys are VERY tight-lipped about AI drum. Trying to get somebody to talk openly is nearly impossible, and I can't say I blame them. Mostly I just see the pictures.

Something to shoot for.....

Sharp hooks,
Saintjerome

saintjerome ,

Check your PM's. But yes, especially during the drum run, AI tight lipped. Maybe a fall to remember for me though, since with work, little fishing on AI this past Spring.

Shaggy, I have never been to AI. If you take me on one of your adventures to AI this fall, they BL's and gas are on me. Since I'm up in this area now, might as well learn the area. Let me know when is your trip next? :)

September, most if not all bugs gone, depends on the weather wind and temps, but pretty much touron free.

Teo, I'll get with ya, we will be able to make a few trips this fall. Also got a message, so send me some more info, entry fees ecetera, probably wouldn't mind if Bucket or Dog is willing, since they seem to have a knack down there.

Does anyone know how early Dec is for stripers at AI?

I got a friend coming to town for the holidays and he was talking about trying to get some fishing in.

Mostly COLD  , but can have some nice days. Depending on water temps though, fishing can be good. A couple of years my brother and I were even in search for 'em in January.

Anyways, generally getting late in the season, seems best time for us is right around (?) omitted, butstripers can be caught, if found from late September until waters cool too much, so just keep an eye out on water temps.

You know there ain't no Bluefish (http://pierandsurf.com/photopost/data/500/11705blues2.jpg) or Stripers (http://pierandsurf.com/photopost/data/500/11705DSCF0016-med.JPG) at AI. :p We just go there to watch the ponies. :D.....Tightlines

Well, I figure, if I get them out there, and they AIn't catching fish, they too will be pony watching converts, then we can start a club, and you and I won't look so stupid sitting around "ooohing and ahhhhhing" at the ponies alone  . I can hear the talk now, but few know the true treasures of the Island as they go for one reason, and unless extremely fortunate, come home with little more than a sunburn, should have used SPF 50 or so!
