Hi Guys -- just looking for some pointers here...

While I'm out catching some perch and spot during the dull summer months, how is it best to put some of them aside to use for cut bait in the fall ?

What should I wrap them in ? I simple freezing good enough -- should I cure them in anything ?

Last year, I used cut alwife at the narrows and had fair luck. This year, I'll probably do the same but wanted to have my own supply of cut bait as well.

Thanks,

since we can't get 'fresh' on our way to AI ; we always have some frozen with us . when i can get it i'll ice it down in the cooler , throw in some kosher salt & fill with water . let it set that way for 24 hrs & vacum pack it .
only have done it for bunker , so don'y know how it will work for anything else . holds up better than the frozen ya get at any of the shops on the way down .
fresh is best ; but frozen gets the job done too......

If you're going to use them within 4 or 5 months just dry them real good and freeze them in Zip Lock freezer bags or freezer paper. Longer than 6 months then you'll want to brine them and vacumn seal them. I'm freezing whole spot right now and just wrapping them in freezer paper. That's how I've always done it and they work fine, not mushy at all.

Thanks for the offer but I'm gonna be tied up this weekend. My next fishing trip is probably gonna be to go out on the Island Queen -- just have to find a date to do it. If that falls through, I'm going to OCM for a week at the end of Aug -- maybe that will hold some promise.

Where are you fishing at tonight? I'm thinking of heading to Solomons or PLO...hopefully the rays are gone from both places.

right now. That's a good idea, catch some for AI later in the fall.
