That is not good. His family must be devastated to lose him to such a thing. Also, I heard earlier today that 20 some blocks of ocean swimming was closed because of fecal bacteria in Virginia beach. I'm not sure how there can be a "safe" line in in the ocean but that is their ruling. It's a shame but we all need to be aware of the possibilities. Granpa

THat really sucks. I wonder how the guy got it, was he wading or did he have (as many of us do) small barb skin pricks leading to non-intact skin.
Geeze, like the spring rains wern't bad enough. Now this.

Swimming in sewage.
That's always a bad idea.

Can this be taken to a more general forum, or linked at least on the Virginia forum please? We all need to be reminded of just how serious we need to take these advisories. I know I wasn't concerned until reading this. :( I ALWAYS have lesions and (a true klutz!) and, being a diabetic, have a "compromised immune system". But I've been out there gladly frolicking in the surf, paying no attention to when/where it was safe. :(
Thanks for the reality check, Orest.
sad...
but lets all remember we can be hit goin to work by the soccer mon in her tahoe on her cell in the morning as well. life is precious and that is all we need to remember
