there are kings and spanish to be caught. not alot of real kingfishers at tybee though. the best advice i could give you is go on a WNW wind the island actually faces ESE or slightly south. a good WNW wind will allow considerably longer casting their and with the beach as flat as it is this makes a pretty good difference you can reach 12-15 foot of water with that wind and get a bait out to the clear water line a few days before and after the big tide of the month.not to say any time isnt good but these would be the ideal conditions. I fish tybee pier probally 3-5 times every week and i consistantly catch bigger game species when alot of others are not. I dont think im any better of a fisherman than everyone else ive found though that tybee pier success comes with longer cast. get as far out as you can!! you no what i mean? i no thats true for nearly every where you go but specifically tybee pier as the bottom narrows at both ends the farther out you go to a point about 1/4 mile off the beach due to the 2 large rivers at both ends of the beach and the faifly short lenght of the beach.maybe one mile long. basically the beach is a small sandbar that juts out to a point. the pier also has a large overhang at the end with benches under it so get their very early I.E. daylight or before!! because you can only have room to cast a kink rig at the two corners if you have a long heaver due to the overhang. basically theirs only about 8 feet or so of space at either side of the front without the roof of the overhang being in the way of a 10+ foot rod heaving a claw sinker out for a live line.also i recommend a couple of "DECOY" rods out to keep some space reserved as the pier is sumwhat small at the end.hope that helps you some. and have a great trip.
