Went fishing on the HONEY BEE down in Ridge doen by Pt. Lookout last week. The boat left at about 8:45am. we fished untill everyone had thier 2 rock then went back to shore. We were back at the dock by 12:30pm. It was not an 8 hour trip, closer to 3 hours. No blues were caught. We fished for about half an hour right out side thr inlet before we went for rock. On the way back we stoped just outside the inlet and fished for about half an hour and caught nothing to keep. When we stoped on the way out we caught a few keeper spot, some spot for bait, and a couple of croakers. I went out about a month or so ago and it was much the same thing, but we were back by noon.

Not a bad trip (with everyone getting keeper rocks). Too bad your other fishes were not that cooperative.

Went out at 8:45 and came back in at 12:30
on an 8 hour trip? There should have been
a riot. I know some of those guys
who fish on those boats and do not think
they would just allow the boat to cut them
short by more than half the trip without a
very good reason. Noticed that you posted
this same story on another board and this is
your first post on this board. Sounds like
you have got a beef with this boat and are trying to get it around as much as possible. What did the Capt say when you asked him
why you got less than half a trip? Why is
your first post a flame job.........

The first time it happend about a month and a half ago he said he had to get a part for his other boat the OLYMPUS,I didn't say any more because he only had 3 people on the boat. Three people on a headboat is not very many ! But the last time he had 6 fisherman on board. I didn't get a chance to talk to the Capt., but I asked the mate. He said the Capt. thinks if everybody gets 2 rock that's a fishing trip. This is the first year it's been like that. Whats a flame job ?

John,
I apologize if I came off a bit harsh, but
your story seems almost beyond belief.
I was not there, but I have been down
there on those boats several times, and
those guys are meat fisherman, really
hard to believe that they would just
up and let a Capt cut them out of all
that time and money without almost
a riot breaking out. The Capt's have
a real good rep here...as a matter of
fact, this is the first negative report
I have ever heard, out of a whole lot
of great ones. And this is also your
first report...and you have posted this
same exact report over on TF. Got to
take everything with a grain of salt on
the internet. There are loads of guys
here who use the Olympus and Honey
Bee, mabye they can provide some
input on this?

As many know, I've gone out on Olympus and Honeybee many times, and have complete respect for Joe, Clay and the other guys. Indeed there are days when all on board catch a limit of stripers, and then the search is on for other fish. Sometimes they find 'em, sometimes not. After a while, especially if it's very hot, it just makes sense to return to dock with a limit in every cooler.
Remember, other days fishing is real tough and few folks catch a limit. Fortunately, that doesn't happen often with these boats.
On balance, I'd like to fish the entire day after catching a limit IF THE FISH ARE BITING. Sometimes, IMO, it just makes sense to return early.
Just my 2 cents worth.

John, I was obviously wrong and I apologize.
I totally agree with you. If you paid
for an 8 hr trip you should get an 8 hr
trip. Unless the ENTIRE party wants to
cut it short.

If True I Would Agree That If I Paid For 8 I Fish Eight Just B/c We Limit On Rock I Can Still Bottom Fish. In My Opinion You Might Wanna Speak Up With The Capt Next Time. Someone Said That He Came In B/c Of Heat. That B.s. Of An Excuse If I Ever Saw One... Hell To Me That Makes For A Great Day Fishing And A Great Day For A Nice Cold Beer Or Soda. Good Luck Next Time With The Time ;) :d :d :d

if gas prices keep going up, I am sure this will happen more and more often.

I Hate To Say This But Then Like Monty On Morning Star Pass The Fuel Cost On To The Fisherman And Let Us Fish. I Mean Who Wants To Get A Charter And Then Not Get Some Good Fishing In. Id Rather Go To The Fish Market Than Charter Fish For 3 Hrs..and It Would Be Cheaper Too...lol :d :d

I'd wouldv'e asked for a partial refund, sounds like they ripped you off because they were lazy that day
next time, land your own fish a keep releasing them cause you want a bigger one......

Most of us headboat/charter fisherman
expect to get charged a little extra
for fuel. Still cannot see that being a
justification for not at least putting in
the time to catch some white perch or
spot after you get your 2 rocks.

Agree. I wouldn't mind paying a reasonable gas surcharge on the Olympus.
Never had a problem with those guys down on the Olympus/Honeybee. They ususally keep on trying 'til they find the fish. Last trip out on them a little over a month ago, we limited out on rock and then he stayed out late so we could get some croaks too.
Hmmm... the original post was a day trip. Never had a "too hot, gotta go in" experience because I usually do their night trips. Not long ago, I can imagine it was pretty toasty out there at noon. Still, I would give the paying customers the option.
Gotta be more to the story. They aren't the Hooker.

BubbaBlue,
My sentiments exactly. They have
always been standup guys for me.
then again I have always gone on the
night trips.....still, you figure we
would have heard some negative
reports by now with all of the guys
on this board who fish with them.
