If you come across it, the September Field and Stream has a good article on fall surf striper fishing. How-to kind of article. Pluggin' and bait fishing.

Lures, baits, reading the beach, dates/locations for the migration, and gear.

They don't have it on their web site or I would've included a link. :(

The only things that caught my eye as wrong were that they suggested using the plastic line/sinker sleeves on the fish finder rig.... and some of the gear is a little off. High-end clothes... $150 fish pliers  , but a cheaper Cabelas rod/reel. I normally spend more on my reel than my pliers... jeez... Other than that, it's not a bad article.

Its funny what kind of gears Field and Stream would recommend. Its like super expensive high end stuff. I wish they were more practical and recommended gears that had a balance of quality and price. Its nice to see that they would recommend van staal type of reel but what average fisherman could afford one like that, even though it might be of highest quality.

Some of the gear in this article is right on, like Korkers for jetties, and neoprene waders for a cold NE'er surf... but $150 titanium fishing pliers? That's what caught my eye.

Their plug casting setup is all Cabelas... not familiar with their line, so I can't make a judgement on it. General principle tells one that it's probably a good call that your reel should be worth more than your pliers.

"Reading the Surf" part is good. Looks like Flea's with better graphics, similar info, but also includes a little on jetties.

Also, there's a blurb on teasers, even though they don't call it that. I'll do a little quote here. (It's not the whole artcle Matt...)
"When stripers are feeding selectively on very small bait in the surf, try attaching a tiny fly, jig or metal spoon to a dropper loop tied roughly 2 feet ahead of the main lure. The latter gives you enough weight to deliver the smaller lure, and together, they look like a larger predator chasing after bait. This draws attention to the dropper, which may trigger a reaction strike from competitive bass..." Cool!

The gear part is sorta off base in some cases, but the rest of it is pretty good.

There is also a Stripers article in this month's Saltwater's Sportsman. It is about live lineing eels and catching monster rock. Most of the info was for boat anglers, but there were still some tips.

You wont' believe it, but I have a free 6 month subscription to that magazine and that Sept issue was mainly about bow hunting. I'm not into hunting, so after I thumbed through the magazine quickly (not noticing the striper article), I took it to work and gave it to buddy of mine who's a die hard hunter. The next day, he said there was a really good article about the basics of striper fishing. Now I read what you posted and now I wish I looked through every page and not missed that article. Go figure!

It's not a big deal. The article is worth a read, but you probably already know everything that's in it.

It's a good article for beginners as long as they take the gear part with a grain of salt.

OK. That's what I initially thought when my buddy mentioned it was for begginers. I've done my share of reading begginers stuff. I felt I missed out when you said it was good. Speaking of stripers, we're getting close to the fall!!!!!
