Well it was another great day fishing with Monty. Left the dock at 0645 with another sold out boat. We were greeted by a small school of dolphin at the inlet. Talk about awesome. They were right next to the boat no more the 10' away. We headed SSE for 2 hrs, just enough to get in a short 1 1/2 hr nap. Getting to meat of the report it was one of those days to quote Monty "in 15 yrs I can count on one hand when as many big flounder in numbers were caught and may never see it again". Long story short over 60 keeper flounder were caught with many limiting out with four. For me it was another personal best with 4 flounder - 1 @ 20", 1 @ 22", 1 @ 23", & 1 @ 26". Also had another 3 short flounder. Just about all the flounder were caught on strips of sea robin. The sea bass were running on the small side. About one in 10 were keepers. I ended up with 10 in the box. Not too shabby a day. Monty also fished and got his 4 flounder, one being a 28" doormat. Headed back to the barn at 1:30 for another 2 hr trip and another nap. Sorry no pics. Left the camera back at the condo.

Lucky dog!!! Sounds like you got your wish
on catching a nice dinner. ;) I guess
with all of those nice flounder coming up
you said the heck with tog, I would have.

Monty is going to fool around and get
a reputation as a flounder boat....Guess
there are worst things that could happen.

There wasn't a single tog caught. Hard to beat a day like we had. BTW, I started with Diachi Red circles and didn'tget a single bite while everyone around me were bailing fish. Took me about 15 minutes to figure it out. Changed to Owner Black circles and started catching right away. Go figure. I'll probably do two more trips before November when I get my hip replaced.

How much does it cost to get on the headboat?

Congrads Catfish, I wish we would have been able to go last Wed. Drove 1200 miles and did not get to. But glad Monty is an HONEST captain. Most would have took are money and ran.

Since you can reserve your spot, where is the best place to go. I know the stern is better (closer to the water), but are the corners in the rear better?

Just looking for opinions.

Thx

Since Monty anchors on the wrecks
rather than drifting, the whole boat
is generally good. The stern corners are
good because you can fish to your
left straight out and to your right. Which
can make a huge difference if the fish
are just staying in a small part of the
wreck. I have actually caught most
of my pool fish on eithor side of the wheel
house. I believe this is because Monty
positions the boat right over the wreck
allowing everyone around the boat to
be over fish. Since his wheel house is
about center of boat, that position
is generally right over some great
wreckage. Then on rough days the
stern is by far the most stable place with
the bow being just brutal on your body.

On nice days I like the bow, the top 2 or 3
spots are usually open on days when he is
not sold out, so you get tons of room. The
extra room to throw your bait around
seems to help in the fish catching department
also.

I personally also like the stern because
you are right next to action i.e. mate, bait,
capt, etc.

Were the flounder caught at anchor? I have been reading reports of his flounder catches for about two weeks now. I was just wondering whether they are incidental catches taken while on the hook or is he making an effort and drifting for them? I think there are far more large flounder off of Delmarva than most people realize. For some reason southern folk treat flounder as a bay species and do not target them in the ocean. How often do you hear an ocean flounder report from south of the Old Grounds? The main body of large fish never make it into the coastal bays and stay on live/rough bottom throughout the summer. It could be a nearly untapped fishery. Something to think about eh?

I have seen flounder while drifting and while anchoring up. This summer has been amazing for flounder. Even saw a double header of a 4 & 6 lbers on someone's line the other day.

Duke....We caught ours while @ anchor in about 100' of water over a coral bottom.

Anthony....Tuck told me about that double header. Sorry I missed you. Monty had some good things to say about you.
