Being new to the area I am a little curious, what is the favorite fish out there and why? Fight, taste, etc.
My personal is probably King Mac. This is what I caught the most of out of Pensacola, Fl. It was always a real good fight and on the grill tasted like heaven. I am out to try new thrills now though and plan to bust some reds out of the water hopefully and try them on the grill. Also, whiting is a fairly new fish to me. Hell, fishing from land is a new adventure as most of my fishing has been from a boat. So any guidance on a certain fish I need to aim for, I'm all ears. Last but not least, I have picked up a ton of new info from you guys on the site. Just wanted to say Thanks.

Be sure the reds are in the slot.(ya dont wanna get caught with those PUPPIES or bulls) and as far as fight id have to say the biggest thing you can hook. but i am partial to fighting 45+ inch reds and sheepshead. i guess it just depends on the weight tackle. a 6 inch whiting is fun with 4 pound test and a ultralight.and tASTE well thats just a matter of personal preferance to.i think grilled sheepshead fillets taste better than fried catfish but id rather eat fried catfish than fried sheepshead. :)

It's got to be striper all the way. I love the fight and the taste. I like catchin weakfish or spots as you down south call them but they are only here for a few weesk at the begining of the season. I also like catchin black drum. They get pretty big around here 70-75lbs is average. ;)

I have to agree stripers from a jetty or the surf can really tug!! But I have yet to land a BIG bull red from the sand, from what I hear they can tussel with the best of them. it's hard to beat the way a fresh striper taste with some butter and lemon and a dash of old bay staged with some silver queen and sliced mater. Although blackend redfish is a mighty fine treat :D
For taste:
#1 Triggerfish
#2 back seabass
#3 Blowtoad (northern puffer)
#4 grouper
#5 flounder
#6 fresh mullet (popeye mullet)
For fight:
#1 Amberjack
#2 yellowfin tuna
#3 Fat Albert (false albicore)
#4 dolphin
#5 large red drum (over 40 lbs)
I have never hooked any billfish so I cant coment on them.
As for taste, I have tried everything I can think of except menhaden.
To each his own!

OMG, The #1 fish for taste, hands down, is Walleye followed by catfish then crappie.
For fight, I'll go with your first two, even first 3, though I have yet to tie into a jewfish.
