I am at SPSP now typing on my gov't laptop and connecting with a gov't Verizon Wireless card. Life is sweet.
I was here before 7AM. The morning's goal was crabs and that is coming slowly. The meat market in Laurel was out of chicken necks so I am using drumsticks.
Before leaving home, I checked DNR's website this morning to confirm crab size regs. On the site there is a posting about illegal traps being sold in state. Apparently, for the past three years my gear has been illegal. The state does not like traps that close when trigger by crabs. These ones often have a float that alerts you when bait was taken. So, I am using a new trap and some handlines.
I stopped at Angler's on the way. i know there is always debate about their bloodworms but the staff was helpful. I picked up some bloodworm flavor fishbites.
While crabbing, I like to throw out my 6 foot freshwater heavy duty rod with a j hook, split shot sinker, and bobber. Today, my rod still had a trout hook on there, so, I have not been landing as many sub-dink spot as I would like. For some reason, my bigger hooks are with the freshwater gear. I bought a surf rig at Anglers, with float, bucktail, and leader and tried that for 30 but nothing hit it (or nothing big enough to move it). So, I am back to to the regualr setup.
Probably, around 10 or 11 I will head to the beach and try the surf.
Regards,
Stephen
