View Full Version : Saturday night Kent Narrows report
sand flea

The Narrows continues to be a disappointment this year. While I'm hearing of a few scattered keepers here and there, they seem to be few and far between.
Last night I fished both sides of the bridge. There were plenty of schoolies, but around 7 PM the alewives moved in so thick that it was impossible to get a bite from a striper. There were so many of them that I snagged or hooked in the mouth a good 6 or 7 of them. They were so thick that reeling back on every cast felt like dragging a lure over a pebbled bottom.
That place ain't what it used to be. I remember up until about three years ago going there on any given night and catching plenty of 20-25" fish. Now it seems to be dink city and the season's nearly over.
It's at the point where it's just not worth the gas to drive over there.

Here is the skinny,
The past few DAYS(!) I went out I caught keepers. 19 1/2 was the biggest. I cast to rising fish out in the far shadow. The smallest lure I threw was a 4 inch shad. Any smaller and the dinks will tear em up. Yesterday before flea got there I banged six in a row. The smallest was 15 and the largest went just at 18. I threw it back. I probably could have caught my limit except the bait fishermen and the boats (kept driving through the rising fish) kept me out of my "spot". As night began to fall the bite shut down. I think we have to try different things to score this year. Someone told me that daytime fishing sux'd. Well I gave a couple of my four inch storms to a couple of guys there and they took home keepers ;) Maybe I just been having good JUJU :D for sharing my lures.

It seems that you (CDL) gave some info to my bro Bubbablue about a certain lure. He gave me one. I caught my first keeper rock by lure with the one he gave me. I then found some larger ones on clearance at Cabelas. I promptly went out and caught a keeper with the larger lure during the day. Two guys were there the next time I went. They threw everything in the box and didn't catch a thing. On my fifth cast I caught a keeper. I asked if they had any like the one I was throwing. They answered no so I gave them both one. The rest is history.
The JUJU should come full circle if ya want to meet out there let me know :p

I Use So Many Lures At The Narrows That At One Time I Just Gave Up Until I Use 1-oz Jig Head And A 5inch Blue Black Ba . But Now I Use A 1-oz Chrome Cast Master With A 4/0 Owner Circle Hook In Red Bleeding. So Try This And Get Back To Me. C-d-l
